Did you call the Chrysler customer assistance line? The phone number should be in the back of your owners manual. At least try it, if they dont pay all of it they may pay some of it or do it with a deductable.

It seems like they would stand behind a transmission no matter if it's the second owner, there is no reason for a trans to go out with only 47,000 miles, except for faulty assembly by the factory.

$4k for a tranny is bit on a new one. Heck if the warranty is out anyway, why not gut a used one from a low mileage wrecker and have it swapped over. Most deler warranties are 12/12k on rebuilts unless you spend more cash. Check into the warranty some more before you drop more cash.

If I am not mistaken the warranty on a Chrysler reman trans is 3years/100,000 miles. And that should not matter if you pay for all of it or Chrysler helps you out and you pay just a portion. I cannt say it enough, just call Chrysler. Tell them you are a loyal customer (they may see that already when you call, you would be amazed on what info they have). But be nice! You get more bee's with honey! Its worth a phone call at least!

These trans are known problems . so odds are in your favor to try this. More so if you have receits of regular maintentence. ESPECIALLY if it was Mopar dealer done. Regradless of the dealer it was serviced at or is at now

If you call pissing , moaning and groaning you ain't gonna get squat.

Be nice and courtious,,, chances are it'll be worth the call. even if they only pay part of it.

if you get nothing,( doubt it ) then your only out a few minutes of your time

no

basically, the Chrysler Advisor told me that early '08 tranny's are a known problem, that I should have paid for the extended warranty

I tried to get them to waive the $50 to hook it up to the code reader and tell me what was wrong, but they didn't budge, and I stayed extra poliete during the whole conversation ...

so I'll be the warning bell for anyone else driving the new style Caravan and T&C - the tranny's are crap, and 2nd owners dog gone better pay to have an extended warranty or start saving for a replacement tranny ...

I will never own another one

For the record, they could not have even rebuilt my original because after the got it out and inspected it - they saw a crack in the bell housing ... I don't know if they cracked it somehow when the got it out or what-

The transmission is all sealed up- there is no dipstick, nothing was leaking and I had no warning or idiot lights until it was gone

The mechanic said he thought the pump failed several days before it totally failed

They told me it was cheaper to install a new one than to try and fix my original because its labor intensive (thats before they found the crack)

the new one does come with a 3 yr, 36,000 mile warranty ... someone else will deal with

They told me I could get a good deal on an '11, I asked if it had the same basic tranny, which they said it did, and I didn't even open the door of the new vehicle

So with tax, labor and a new 6 speed tranny, it was close to 4800 out the door, with no help from Chrysler

The Service Manager showed me another '08 T&C that was 2 bays down getting the tranny done

get this: his '08 had 97,xxx miles and they were putting the 2nd transmission in it ... so I asked .... that's the 3rd tranny ..???? the original and 2 replacements have gone out ????

and the Service Manager said, yeah, but it's ok- he's 1st owner, so its covered .... and I'm thinking ... so basically every 33,xxx miles- your tranny is going out

(... it's OK ???? I DON'T FREAKIN THINK SO)
thats a load of crap

call me stupid for doing so, but 2 days later, I traded it in on a Toyota 4Runner and even though I got screwed in the deal, I will not have to worry about that poorly built vehicle again ....

I had paid ahead so I had some positive equity for the trade in, but when you add in the cost for the repair- I lost ...

very soured over the entire deal

never owned anything but Ford, Mopar, and 1 Chevy, but I jumped ship this time

My wife has had a Toyota for 7 years, and except for tires and regular routine maintenance, it's been flawless

In the same amount of time, my full sized Ram Van had the overcharged battery that burst the engine compartment and totalled it, then I bought a used 01 Ram and at close to 96,xxx miles, the tranny was slipping in that one and I traded it for this Chrysler TC, which I had 7 months and then this

if it's bad of a problem- there should be a RECALL

agree sounds pricey. if its out of warantee why take it to the dealer?

I took it to the dealer because over the phone they told me there was a software update they could try to do to fix it, but that didn't work

the tranny was so shot that by the time I had it to the dealership, I was waiting for them to open the bay door and it -barely- made it in the service bay .... I couldn't have driven it out of there if I had to ... to take it to any other tranny business..

I thought that surely with less than 50,xxx miles, that there would be no problem from Chrysler to say there was some kind of problem and THEY would cover it ...

You could have had it towed someplace else. Or JY tranny and then sell.

People get uptight when some of us say they will stay far far away from a new Mopar.

I'm confused now. I asked about the reliability of Caravan transmissions recently, and I got a resounding , no worries, troubles are a thing of the past.

Now I'm reading even the 08's are a problem area. Chrysler STILL doesn't have it right after 25 years????

My choices for my next car keeps getting smaller and smaller...

I have an '08 T&C and it has 36,000 miles. Hoping no issues with mine. I am the first owner so it shouldn't cost me squat. If it goes, I better get a rental or something for FREE from the dealer while it gets fixed.

this is the wrong site to get honest feedback about new chryslers . too many chrysler apologists here that are too busy bashing other car brands to amit to their actual problems. this thread is typical chrysler. its been like that for years and isn't going to change anytime soon. its pathetic. can't believe a crappy company like that can still be in business.

Really? You think that there are members here that would lie in an attempt to improve Mopar's image? I've seen plenty of misinformation here, but I've never concluded that it was intentional.

David, it saddens me to read about your transmission problems. I work at the factory where they are built, so there is some pride and embarrasment.
We do a lot of the casting and machining in house to ensure high quality. Unfortunately a lot of the issues have been with parts supplied to us by vendors. Such as, Timken bearings were used exclusively, but one was very expensive. A vendor said "hey, I can sell you one just like it for a lot less". Guess what, it was causing major failures way down the road because the preload would go away. Lesson learned there, many future repeat customers gone.
At 47,000 miles, Chrysler should stand beind their products regardless of the warranty.

Did you ever call the 1-800 customer asst line for Chrysler that was in the back of the owners manual? I would be supprised if they would not help you out. and if they did not that is too bad.

For the record I have a 06 minivan with the 4speed auto 75K miles, no issues with the van at all, and also a 08 Sebring 3.5 6speed auto. Same thing both have been reliable as a stone.

Sorry to hear about your situation.
