Met a guy who says Chrysler built a 500 cubic inch industrial big block only for use in the heaviest of heavy duty applications. Anyone ever hear of this rare motor? -BD

Will the last one leaving the US please turn out the lights.

For 1970 models they had a 478 & a 549. I'll take a quick look for a 500.

The 478 and 549 were probably what he was referencing, where would you find either of these? Do they look like RB's are they just bored 440's? -BD

I'm pretty sure those are GMC truck engines. There was also a large CID V-6 in this series.

They were sourced from International to compete with the big Ford gasser at that time. The 413 was a great truck engine (for it's time and being a gasser) but they needed a bigger engine to compete. That only lasted a year or two and then everyone got smart and started going with diesels in those trucks.

Not as miserable as the diesel version of the 549. It was good at converting diesel fuel into noise tho . Never saw one in a Dodge or Fargo truck.
