Well....just picked up a new place to roam. 5 acres with a house...4 car garage(will be enclosed for game room). Now comes the big headache....the last 3 shops I've built were red iron(industrial type) buildings. But the quotes I'm now getting for a 40x80x12 and a 40x60x12 are scaring me to death ! And yes...I'm putting up 2 shops...one for my stuff...and one to resume building chassis cars(40x80x12) Versatube has peaked my curiosity.....and my bank account.... a 40x60x12 is under 19K delivered to my door. And the slab requirements cut the concrete bill by 1/3 Anyone put one of these up? BTW...here's the new place http://www.zillow.com/homes/25482-Road-19-Chowchilla, This summer we'll be laying concrete and asphalt for the "test" pad.. about 800'

You can barely buy a house, let alone the land to go with it for that kind of money down here!

Good deal on your purchase, nice size buildings that you have in mind to build. I don't understand the savings on the concrete though. Where can you save 2/3 of the cost?
The red iron buildings require huge deep footings for the beams to land on(24x24x72 with tons of rebar)...the beams are 20 ft apart...so they support the entire weight of the buidling. The Versatube is more like wood const....so it only needs a standard slab as the weight is distributed evenly.

Thats a real deal, question for ya, are they lowering the taxes to the sale price or are they still going to stick it to you for the 464,000 that they have it appraised for?
it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

I just built an engineered steel building. Mine was just like red iron just painted grey at the Pittsburg plant. I bought it for $23,000 delivered. Then spent $17,000 on the floor. It is 40X80 with a 14 ft eave and 3/12 roof pitch. The only thing I would do different is pay for the painted roof. About $2,000 extra. It has a better ridge procedure when you go with the painted roof. Just looks better. The company I bought from was one of 13 that sold the same buildings. Bottom Line Steel buildings. Great to deal with but Solara the girl I bought from want to have babies and be a full time mom so she closed down. Just look for steel building sales in the Pittsburg area. Very happy with mine.

Man Leon....just curious, why was the floor so expensive? If it was 6 inches thick, that is only like $6000 or less in concrete. Or does this floor have the rebar reinforced large footings too?

I'm from CA....what's a Rat wall? Is that a raised footing around the base of the building? That would add a lot to both materials and Labor...but that isn't commonly done/needed around here.

Here in Mich we have to have a vertical wall in the ground all the way around the building... called a rat wall just for the purpose of keeping rats from digging under the structure .... it doesnt have to be thick but the thinnest you can usually make it is 4" ... in this area it needs to be 24" deep on a garage type building.... so that adds up real quick
In CA it is call a "footer" 12 inches wide and up to 24 inches deep on the outside edge of conventionla construction buildings, all sides , depending on the local code
Yeah, I was including a footer...but just a 12"x12" which is typical around here.
