Black_Sheep OP master Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 4,574 Upper Midwest	The 4.7 in my '02 Ram has always been a little noisey on start up but it seems to be getting worse. It almost sounds like a diesel until it's run for several minutes, then it quiets down as the engine gets to operating temp. The truck is going in next week for some warranty work and I plan to ask the service writer about it. Could it be "piston slap"? If so, is it a common problem with 4.7's? Is there a way to find out if Mopar has a TSB about it? Thanks, Mark '69 Plymouth GTX See you on the street...

Maybe you should replace it with that 440 out of that cheap GTX I've got a '02 truck with a 4.7 and it's been a little noisy on start up (off and on) for years but never had any problems. Your service tech. is probably the guy to ask about bulletins. Hans

Chris2581 master Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 6,531 Jacksonville, FL	I have a '02 1500 ram with the 4.7.I have what I would call a bit of lifter noise,but it is very slight,just a little bit of ticking.I have 110K on it and it's been a great truck. Nautilus Racing- We use Superformance gaskets and Turbo Action converters/products.
