Getting ready to start working on getting my Valiant alittle more legal just in case I take it to a track that techs (my home track doesn't). I'm redoing my whole fuel system and battery wiring and I've got a few questions. Does NHRA allow the fuel pump and filter to be in the trunk with the cell? I'm wanting to install all of it in the spare tire well to clean up under the car. How far away from the exhaust does the fuel line have to be? Also can you run your battery wire through the passenger compartment or does it have to be outside the car? I know I'll have to install a firewall and such behind the seat too. I'm planning on going with hard line and AN fittings as long as thats approved. I just want to be legal if I go to a NHRA track, right now the car has too much gear and not enough motor to worry about it but hopefully that will change soon

Keep the fuel line as far away as possible from the exhaust- run it outside the subframe connectors if you have them.
You can run the battery cable inside the car. I did this in my last 2 cars- run it in the outer rocker sill area behind the kick panels and out thru the oval plug in the lower firewall area right to the starter.
Here's a pic of the trunk in my old 68 Valiant so you can see how I set everything in as you want to do. I welded a bracket on the passenger side that mounted the fuel filter, fuel pump and then ran the fuel out thru a hole I drilled uo to the front of the car.
Hope this helps.

Thanks!! That's exactly what I am looking to do. I just want it all to be packaged alittle better than it is now and I figured if I was running new line I might as well make it fit like I want it to. Thanks for the pic

That's how I did my wife 1968 Barracuda this past spring. I did run the battery cable from the starter to the external shutoff under the car along the frame rails and then just ran the 1 wire from the other side of external shut off up through the trunk floor to the Battery charging post and then over to the battery. But I don't think I've ever seen any rules on where you have to run the battery cable but I haven't had any trouble at the IHRA/NHRA tracks I've ran at, but that doesn't mean it's correct...
