Is this a good fuel for a street build?

I am loving it! Mine is only a summer car so I can't speak to cold carb drive-ability. It's beautiful to see frost on the top half of the blower in 70-80 degree weather! That FM3 is begging for E-85!

Come on.....ethanol is certainly subsidized starting with the farmer.

You hace to be kidding. The farmer gets nothing extra for the corn weather it goes to feed or foodfor human use or fuel.

True, the farmer doesn't care where it goes. When the corn goes to market the government kicks in X dollars per bushel.
Over 75 billion dollars (tax dollars) have been spent on corn since 1995.

not to steal the thread, but is there any reason to not use e-85 aside of added fuel consumption? does it rust up the cylinder walls if not ran for months, does it rot fuel lines faster than race gas, does it leave any residue in the carb-fuel system over long term periods?

I'd like to know that as well.
What all needs to be done to convert from 112 to E85?

Thanks, Bobby

Hello Bryx512, hows it going? I have to get a carb for the new motor so I'm throwing around the idea of e85. Only problem is there are no e85 pumps in Seward.

If it's street driven can't you get like a $10,000 alternative fuel grant?

Wouldn't E85 cost something like $6-7.00 a gal without the government subsidies?...and if they didn't subsidize it I believe food (and feed) crops might be a lot more affordable too.

Where's all the Ethanol-propelled Combines that harvest all the corn and battery powered 18 wheelers to bring it to market?

There's more than enough Shale derived petroleum and natural gas in the Dakotas to have the Arabs begging us to by their oil for scores of years...oops, sorry us gen pop isn't supposed to know that! Heaven forbid somebody puts 2 and 2 together and demands our elected officials to actually do something good for OUR country.

Sorry don't mean to politicise, I'm just really tired of all the Hypocracy....Have a feeling our founding Fathers would be on my side of this debate though!!

Thanks for the link. I agree farm subsidies should be reduced, just like most other govt spending programs from medicare to social security. But that has nothing to do with E85 or ethanol being subsidized. That is a separate spending policy. Remember 47% of the people in the US pay zero federal income tax, that needs to change too, so those paying it now can get some relief.

Remember, ethanol from corn is only a temporary measure before cellulose based ethanol production becomes viable. Right now ethanol is made from what is available.

Yes I talked to Torco IIRC and guess what? It cost about the same as race fuel.
I wanted 5 gal. to try and it was $55 but that does include the can.

There are a bunch in Lincoln (just not the 66 station in front of the city/county building. They are averaging E-55). I suggest you get one of those 90gal tanks for the back of your truck and get what you will need for a couple weeks use and pump it into the car! Last summer grade price I saw was $2.45 a gal last Oct.

That sounds pretty bad. Even winter grade "E-85" is suppose to be no lower than 70% ethanol. And since ethanol is cheaper than 87 octane gasoline, there is no reason for them to go any lower. IMO, that violates the weights and measure laws...

Ya, I tested it last AUG and it was E-55. The really funny part is that this station has a contract with the city to supply Ethanol to the city fleet!
I recommend a fuel tester to all that use E-85.

I test it here in Mich but I only use(and test) just
the summer grade... I get it from Meier and the
lowest I seen was E-84 with the high of E-86... so
I can live with that
Also if you have tested that fuel and its TRULY
E-55... turn him in... he's ripping off the city
