My 2nd gear has finally gone in my 70 Satellite. With that said, I have a few xtra 727's in my storage building. But they came off of 2 barrell 383 engines. Is there any performance difference between the 383 setup and a stock non HP 440 setup. My current engine is a mild built 440 with a 727 tranny from a stock non hp 440 motor. Will my 383 727 tranny be ok behind this engine? Side Note: Getting my other one rebuilt this summer but I just need her drivable now. Thanks in advance for your advice

yes,it will be fine

make sure to use the correct TC balance if it is different between them

have you adjusted the band?

I have lost 2nd gear a few times and it just needs the band adjustment

the more threds the adjuster that stick out the better, when all the way in the band is used up

I done this up to 3x on a 904 before needing a swap

as long as there is no other mech failure that is

so to adjust the bands: i turn counter clockwise to tighten the band and clockwise to loosen? Never done that but thats probably why I messed this one up. Adjust this before I put in the car or after? Secondly, what stall is that TC likely?

The adj screws are regular right hand thread so CW (in) would tighten the band(s). CW (in) to 72 in lbs (snug) then backed off a certain # of turns ie 2 or 2&1/2 then lock it w the nut holding the bolt at that position w a screwdriver

Broken band, or clutches about burnt out, how does your fuel smell? Burnt? Needs a Rebuild. The other trannies that you have, what are the #s on the trannies ?

POP-the-pan ... look to see what trash is there ...check the quality of the fluid and check the band-lever action on the front and rear ....and then report back.
