Check with Jules before you send them out. He has the correct
finish for the latches....

I believe on a B body, at least up to 70, the hood release mechanism and the trunk lock mechanism are silver, the hood release lever and latch are not black but more of a gray zinc phosphate. The trunk latch is painted body color. E body cars are probably different but I never had a black hood latch mechanism. Maybe someone can post some unrestored photos but IMO dark black like in Jules photos does not look natural on a B body.

Thanks for the pictures and info. Just Trying figure out what is correct and what is not. My hood latch and release is painted silver right now. I have read that they are black zinc but don't want to get it coated in black if that is incorrect

I have a couple 69 survivors - I'll take a look. And I don't think that is normal black zinc or zinc phos...it is something on its own that Jules has figured out and figured out nicely.

The pictured finish is not black. The picture does not do the finish justice.
It is a brownish/antique zinc finish.

I have done 100s to date and I have not run across any silver finish safety hooks.
The trunk latches have always been clear zinc.I think you mean the trunk lid loop.
The proof is when I take them apart and see behind the mating surfaces.
Another detail we need is what car please? 69 B body does not mean they all had the
same hood latch setup.
