My hood latch and release is painted silver right now. I have read that they are black zinc but don't want to get it coated in black if that is incorrect

RoadRunnerJD I have done 100s to date and I have not run across any silver finish safety hooks. The trunk latches have always been clear zinc.I think you mean the trunk lid loop. The proof is when I take them apart and see behind the mating surfaces. Another detail we need is what car please? 69 B body does not mean they all had the same hood latch setup.
