i am looking at buying a car that comes with this engine set up. what horsepower rating would you estimate? is this cam a low end grunter or a high end screamer? thanks.

1970 383, 906 Heads, Edelbrock 800 CFM Carb, Edelbrock RPM Dual Plane Intake, Hooker Fender Well Headers, 11-1 Compression, Purple Shaft Cam 292 Duration 509 Lift, Pro Comp Roller Rockers, and Electronic Ignition.

Here's my official W.A.G. If it has a "real" 11:1 compression ratio, that cam will work in a 383.It will be very rough at idle and need a 3500-3800 stall speed and a fairly steep gear. Depending on what level of prep/modification work has been done to the heads,it could make somewhere in the 420-430 H.P. neighborhood with a 6300-6500 r.p.m. peak. Lots of other variables will effect the power output too.

nope. you can make 420-430hp with way less camshaft. i would guess
somewhere between 470-490hp at 6500rpm.

it has a weak stall setting on the torque converter at 2500, and has a 3.91 differential ratio.

thanks!
