Well not sure about how you burned yours up but quite a few people myself included have had problems with the orange box, on one of my cars I put a 20 year old silver box back in and so far no problems. I would suggest a silver or getting a FBO setup but the FBO is a kit not just the box. Good luck.

I've had my share of orange boxes go bad - that's the main reason why I went with the MSD.

i think the proform's are cheaper off shore knock offs. some of them are blue and can be bought for $10-$15. i've got one i keep for a spare in the trunk. i've never popped a ecu and have used them since 1973. i do believe that all ecu's are susceptible to failing due to wiring glitches, shorts, etc.

Dunno what year or model you own, but my '72 Barracuda has a standoff bracket for mounting on the firewall. Never a problem with the orange boxes.

My '72 Monaco wagon had the ECU mounted right on the firewall, and the "potting material" or insulating jelly melted and ran down the firewall.

Those big honking power transistors in the ECUs get hot. The 'cuda was a later build date than the wagon. Chrysler had to pinch pennies to compete, so that gives you a good clue as to why they went with the standoff even with the 15 cent sheet metal standoff.

no you aren't being punished.it's just a(unfortunate) coincidence, as mentioned they have reliability issues.

MSD boxes are not that reliable, I have two sitting here waiting to be sent back to MSD for repair.
