When my car was running mid 11s on motor and mid 10s on nitrous, I had a tall 6 pack scoop on it that was sealed to the carb. I had that combo well sorted out and played around a lot w/ the carb air pan and jetting. Sealing the carb to the scoop dropped a tenth and gained a little over 1 mph vs. not sealed. I switched to the 5" tall cowl that's currently on my car and did NOT have it sealed to the carb. It ran the same as the six pack hood sealed to the carb. Now if you have a big pro stock style scoop, or something very tall, then I'm sure it'll work better than a cowl. I have done the aero test where you tape strips of thread/yarn around the back of the scoop while going down the track. There is definitely air getting pulled into the cowl scoop. A lot of people will try to tell you they just vent air from under the hood...not true. The rear of the cowl scoop needs to be close to the windshield. I can just barely get my hand b/t the back of my hood and the windshield. If there is a big gap there, it will not pull in air.

The pic isn't good for showing that. The angle and the lighting I guess. It's around 2" away from the windshield...not exactly sure, but I can measure it tonight when I get home from work. It is a bolt on from Glasstek. Here's another pic.

A bolt on hood for a Dart you can not have the end close to the window or it will not hinge up. The end of the cowl will hit the window. I've had both, 5" bolt on and a 6" lift off. I'll see if I can dig up pics of both.

Thanks Iam not going to use the hinges for a bolt on I was just thinking the bolt on is reinforced and would not buckle at the front of the hood only using two pins on the corner at the front of it.

The bolt on hood is heavy, almost the same weight as a steel one. I also set the side up with rails to support the hood, some zues in the front and across the back.
Back ones Side rails and you can also see the front in this pic. I don't have a real good pic showing how close it is to the window but you can see how far back it extens over the cowl. It completely covers where the vent grate was. The pic in my sig is the old 5" bolt on.

Yeah I would guess they are heavy but need room and using a taller front scoop looks weird I think as it has to be wide enough to make up for the offset to the passenger side of the car. Also have a 70 Cuda sitting for ever now, someday it will get its turn

The bolt-ons from Glasstek are heavy, but very rigid. It does not hit the windshield at all.
On some body styles, it's impossible to get the scoop real close to the windshield and have the hood be a bolt-on using factory hinges.

Mine is a AAR pin on. Nice hood and they have a mold so no grafting of scoops on hoods. I lift mine off by myself.

Thanks and i love your car but I need 6 inch and I spoke with AAR and they wont make a bigger one or extend the one they have although it would of been nice if they would --they are just up the road a little from me.

My hood is exactly 2" away from the windshield when closed. As you open it, the top of the scoop gets as close as 3/4" to the windshield, but then the rear of the hood rolls down and forward further away from the windshield. I have the factory original hinges, just using the lightweight springs supplied by Glasstek.
