Hotwheelsjr OP I Live Here Joined: Nov 2003 Posts: 10,693 Surface of the Sun, AZ	Ok -- I've adjusted my son's 400/727 Lokar kickdown by pulling the slack out of the cable at WOT so he has full pressure at WOT. The tranny kicks down when the pedal is smashed, but the problem we have is it doesn't like to shift from 2nd to 3rd until about 3500rpm. 1st to 2nd seems ok around 1500-2000rpm. Cruising through the neighborhood at 25-30mph the tranny will not upshift to 3rd. Too much pressure at low throttle? What can we do to adjust the 2nd to 3rd shift point?

Could be it... DUDE! How the heck are ya? How's the Duster doing these days? Any new pics or videos you can share with me? Damn I miss that car... I have a Lokar setup in my Demon too, but I never let the tranny auto-shift, so I've never paid much attention to it in there. My son's RR is a daily driver and shifting at 3500 all the time is becoming a pain. I'll try and take some pressure away from it to see if the shift points drop. Anyone else? Hans -- send me some pics and/or vids of the ol' Duster when you get a chance. PM me. THANKS!

DANA60 mopar Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 616 TP Exit 7, NJ, USA	To be honest with you, I'm no fan of the Lokar Cable. I had the same probs as you and it took a lot of trial and error to get it right. If you're not right you can cause probs. with your tranny. I'm switching to Bouchillon when I get my auto car back together. I had a talk with them last week and I think that's the way I'm going. I've thought about it numerous times, but money winds up getting spent on needs rather than wants.

I've thought about it numerous times, but money winds up getting spent on needs rather than wants. problem with the lokar , from reading posts , is it's a generic setup and needs to be adjusted to work properly in a mopar application , the ratio of the throttle movement to the arm on the trans is not correct , takes trial and error drilling holes and moving the cable pin , which way and how much ????

Magnum master Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 5,789 Hamilton, Ontario Canada	Adjusting for slack will only solve your problem at partial throttle. You will ALSO lose your high rpm upshift. To have both an earlier upshift at partial throttle AND a max rpm shift at WOT. You need to shorten the throttle lever on the transmission. Basically you drill another hole inboard on the throttle lever. A shorter lever will give you more action or a bigger sweep for the same amount of cable travel. 69 Super Bee, 93 Mustang LX, 04 Allure Super

Shifts on it's own at WOT around 4900 RPM's. I manually shift it a lot anyway. At WOT I usually manually shift at 5800 RPM's. Tires spin some, real firm shift, so it has plenty of pressure. Been driving it this way for years. Still shifts great. Changed tranny fluid recently. abodyjoe I Live Here A Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 11,076 Berlin, N.J.	have been using lokar cables for years and have never had a problem. i always set them up to short shift a bit when on the floor boards because i figure on the street where am i going to really wind it up to 6000 rpm over and over. if i want to really wind it up i'll shift myself. on the street i like it to shift at about 4500 rpm on the floor boards.. It's better to keep your mouth shut and give the impression that you're stupid than to open it and remove all doubt. www.MoparMisfits.com

stumpy I Win Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 32,922 Grand Prairie,Texas	I have noticed that if you drill a new attaching hole in the kickdown lever about a 1/2-3/4" inboard of the original hole it helps the carb to lever ratio. That makes it work better and easier to get adjusted where you want it
