I was having problems with leaky oil filters on my dual remote setup. I have tried Purolator, Mopar, Fram and System1 but they all seemed to leak a little bit. I just bought 2 Napa Gold #1773 and no leaks at all. I highly recommend Napa/Wix filters. They are all that I will ever buy.

Thats the filters I use also. NAPA gold. I get a pretty good discount from work so that helps.

I forgot to mention that the 1773 filters are about an inch or so longer than the standard 1515 filters. They take a quart of oil to fill them before installing.

You must NEVER drive off the IDEAL driving conditions. I don't drive in near ideal conditions, Hot summers, cold (no freezing) freezing winters and everything in between, dusty gravel roads to prairie field roads. Hell I can still change oil and filter 4 times for 65 bucks and know I have good clean oil oil not some manufactured substitute. To each their own. That is why there are so many companies.

I don't know, all the new BMW cars are running synthetics with a 12,000 mile change interval. It must be OK at least on a brand new engine with minimal blow by. Having said that I still feel more comfortable changing my dinosaur oil every 5000 miles

BS. I don't hire somebody to do it for me. I can still buy my oil and filters for well under 15 bucks a time.

Buy oil on sale under 10 bucks for 5 quarts (usually 1.79 qt.) and the same with filters. Filters are under 5 bucks on sale and not Fram. I don't care if you believe me or not I Have been servicing my own vehicles for nearly 50 years without a problem and can see no reason to change. It is your money to spend and if you feel better spending it that way that is fine with me. Just because it cost more don't mean it is any better.
PS: right now Mobil is on sale for 1.88 a quart.

BMW's SIA system ran off of driving habits, engine rpm, temperature, and fuel consumption to calculate its oil change intervals. The clock starts at 15,525 (off the top of my head i think thats what it is). From there depending on the items above it calculates the oils remaning life in it. In a perfect world you would get 15k out of your Mobil1. However also consider those engines run atleast 7 quarts of oil and do run very efficiently. So at 5,000 you're safe, but just for most that say 'German cars do it with that oil, my car can'...it depends on the cars driving conditions, varies car to car.

I run Mobil1 15w-50 in my Barracuda and Mobil1 5w-20 in my Ranger. Can be had for 'cheap' at wal-mart in 5qt jugs for ~$22. Figure I run 8,000 miles intervals with it in my truck (Cuda varies), it's more cost effective than regular engine oils.

Bought a 5qt jug of Valvoline at Wal-mart tonight for $12 and a fram for the Pilot for $4, that's only $16 now tax would put me over but nothing was on sale. Mopar, Ford and AC Delco filters all under $5 and you can catch the 5qt Valvoline jugs for under $10 many times. Use good oil and change it regularly and you will never have an oil failure.
