Hi,
We are in the process of renovating the engine compartment of the 70 Dart. Going with new brake lines. I know that two different brake line kits are listed in most parts houses, one for power and one for standard. We are considering converting over to power brake system a little later, (budget concerns at this time), wonder what problem would occur if we installed power brake line kit into a standard disc brake car? I guess the real question is what is the primary difference between the lines on the two systems?

Thanks for the help.

regards,

doc

The difference will be the 2 lines from the master cylinder to the distribution block/proportioning valve , everything else is the same .

I'd think that all the stuff underneath the car would be the same.

The plumbing from the master cylinder down to the proportioning valve would be where the changes would be since the master cylinder on a PB system would sit farther forward off the firewall.

My first car was a well used 71 dart with the 73 and up large brake pattern disc brakes and no power brake booster. That car stopped amazingly well without a power brake system. I would be half tempted to just leave the brake booster off and then add it later if you think you really need it.

hi Neil,

funny you should mention that setup. We still have a 72 that was converted over to disc brakes without power and the car does stop really well. Been awhile since it was driven, daughter bought a PT Cruiser Turbo 5 speed and stored the Dart.

Well, guess I will replace the lines with standard stuff and change the two front lines later if I have to.

This was a couldn't see the forest for the trees type deal, of course the master cylinders would be in different locations relative to the block on the frame. DUH

Thanks for the help everyone.

Regards,

doc
