could anyone tell me what would cause a motor a ( 400) big block for my charger to spin over but seems like it's not fast enough.. i am using a battery with 800 cold cranking amps but it seems to me anyhow that its not spinning fast enough, what could be some of the.possibilities. the motor was rebuilt and it has never been started and i am trying to get it to turn over..thanks please help

When you try to start it next time as soon as you turn the key off get out and feel of the big wires going to the battery. Resistance = heat so if you've got a bad or dirty connection you should feel the heat from it. Check both the ground wire and the + wire all the way to the starter. Where it's a fresh build things may be a little tight but it should be easily turned with the starter. You might want to take an 1 1/4 socket and turn the motor by hand to get a feel for it, maybe you've got another V8 motor handy you can turn also to compare to. Could just be a bad starter as well.

did you prime the oil system? Should still crank alright but you are gonna want oil through out before it starts. What condition is the starter? Just how slow is it, can you describe?

i have oiled everything new plugs n wires pretty much everything is new except my starter relay which i am waiting on one on order and some of the original wires for the engine harness ..it turns over but it seems to me it should be little faster and the rate of spin declines within seconds as if the battery was getting weak as it is turning over.

what do you mean about the r n r and cam..not sure what you mean.

the engine may be too far advanced, but I suspect a weak battery or a lazy starter. not much else only a very tight engine or cables. I'd go with another battery first, if that don't help and u don't find any other easy problem like a bad cable, prolly a starter is in order.

todays oil does not have zinc and cams get wiped out real quick. That is why I asked if you primed the oil system. Do you understand what primed system means? (not picking on you, just seems this is confusing you.) You need alot of zinc in the oil, form of additives or some kind of diesel oil with zinc in it. He means you are gonna have to remove your intake and put more break in lube in the lobes. Also make sure you are actually getting those 800 amps cold cranking to the starter.
Can you find some one in your area that knows about breaking new motors, it sure would help and save a lot of anguish and money.Good Luck keep us informed as to how it goes.

Sounds simple, but does the battery have a full charge? I just bought a brand new Mopar battery from the dealership last week. Spun, what I thought initially was slow, but took it for granted it was fully charged. The next day I went ahead and put a charger on it while I was tinkering in the garage cleaning up. I went back about two hours later and cranked up the 500.. Sure enough, it started spinning a heck of a lot faster....

all good info. bring #1 to TDC pop the cap and make sure you are on. Clean all the grounds up, hit the battery w/ a charger. One thing you might try is pulling all the plugs, un hook the coil, plug the fuel line and crank it. It should spin over realllly easy. Also make sure you have spark. When that is all done send some hot-start down the carb, it should fire.
