It takes a good engine to make 1000+. By that I mean 410+ cfm heads, 15:1+ comp., .800+ cam lift with serious valve springs. Should also consider using titanium intake valves. I'd use GRP rods around 7" and a 4.5 stroke Callies Magnum crank. I'd use the 440-3x intake and someones custom carb (Cubic, Books, ProSystems).

You did notice the pot stirring emoticon.........yes ?
Look under every race car you think is pushing 1,000 h.p. and check what kind of rear end they use.
The vast majority will be what ?
Class ?
Granted , most of them were never touched by any of Hank's employees.
But they are most certainly based on the 9" Ford.

The Ford 9" should be fine if the large bearing race housing is used. I wouldn't use the 572-13 Indy heads as they will struggle to make 1000HP. It takes B1's fully ported, 7.1 rods (I use aluminum), light piston, 14-15-1 compression, 800+ lift cam in the 288int. 298ex@50 zone, I use an eagle 4.500 crankshaft, and an 1150 APD carb. It makes 1040@7200. It's for sale if interested.

588" Indy aluminum block, B1 orginal heads, 16:1 compression, 700+ lift cam, Hogans sheet metal tunnell ram intake, 2 Pro-Systems dominators, Moroso vacuum pump, Peterson 5 stage dry sump, don't remember brand name of rods and pistons. 1100hp. Powerglide, 9" Ford, 4.10 gears. Resides in a '72 Duster round tube chassis car that weighs 2,250# without driver. Haven't made a full pass with this combo yet. Will be testing with it this spring. Hoping for 5.0s 1/8 mile on motor only.

I think the B1 is superior and it doesn't need dedicated rocker gear (although better) to work. And if you want a bit more, the M/C is available CNC'd for reasonable money. As far as rods it's JMO that steel doesn't work well with that power combo. I've already had one failure and since switching to aluminum, all is good. But I'm sure people here will dispute that theory. You'll need to ask around and draw your conclusions. This is what has worked for me for 7 years on 2 different motors at the same power level.

A guy I race with has a small cubic inch small block and a pair of small turbos run on E-85 makes 980 to the wheels runs a 9" rear with factory 3.55 gears a really tight converter 30" tire drives it thousands of miles and runs low low 9's @ 150+ and is capable of going faster.

I put 200-250, but I know people that put lots more. The main thing is it's easier on all of the other components, crank, block, bearings, etc.

i have heard good and not so good on aluminum rods the good being that they are lighter and lets the motor rev. and little more..the not so good is they dont last as long the life span is not as long and need to be changed more often..now dont take that as word cause i really dont know i have never made any hp like this or used alum. rods before..also this will help answer alot of ?? for my build on the 750hp..now he may use alum. i just cant say and love the ups and downs on the rods..mike
