I had My '67 440 bored .030 over,and had new Pistons,Rods,and Crank balanced,but didn't have
Harmonic balancer included. So I have three questions:Was Harmonic balancer manufactured and
balanced as an individual piece, and what effect
will using It"as is" have on My Engine??
And second: My torque Converter has a very thin
strip of weight spot welded onto It-was Torque
Converter manufactured and balanced as a separate
assembly?? There are two non-concentric shallow
holes drilled in Harmonic Balancer.Approx.2 inches
off centerline,7/16ths dia.,5/16ths deep, right next to each other.Do these holes balance the rotating mass of the harmonic balancer,or do they
serve as balancing the entire rotating assembly?? Eric @ Rickety Enterprises

There have been many locations of the holes drilled in stock balancers, and I'm pretty sure they were individually balanced before install at factory. As long as it's not specifically an external balanced balancer for later 440, I would leave it, since engine is built already. The last couple 440's I got balanced at a good mopar shop, did not ask for balancer. There are companies that can custom balance running engines with slick equipment though, if needed.

Whn I had my 512 balanced the shop balanced everything.. Flex plate with the arp bolts, balancer with bolt, crank rods pistons everything...

I don't know if all this is needed but it sure is a smooth feeling motor.

Thought I had put post regards balance into the
restoration section-couldn't find It there,so I
then reposted to Tech without looking for original
posting..First mistake I've ever made!
