Im trying to help someone with a 340 cam choice. I definitely want a hyd. roller. Does anybody make a drop in with no mods lifters? I would like to use a standard distributor gear as well if possible. Also has anyone had experience with the herbert rollers? The prices are much better. I would like something in the 236-240 range at .050. It is a
67' barracuda
10.5 compression
fully ported x heads.
torker 2 intake 750 holley
tti headers
3.91 gear
Its gonna be a weekend cruiser but maybe a trip to the drag strip once a year. Any advice would be great.

Hughes engines are doing their own line of truly drop in hyd/roller lifters. The best thing is the oiling undercut on the lifter body is a lot lower than everything else available so no more oil pressure loss problems when the undercut gets too close to the top of the lifter bore. As far as cams go, I have a custom ground 'Bullet' hyd /roller that doesn't require a bronze gear.

Ill check out the hughes lifters. So far I am leaning toward the comp xe 286 hydraulic roller but the comp lifters are out of price range.

for a weekend cruiser, I'd drop duration down about 10-12 degrees....

talk to tim at bullet http://www.bulletcams.com/ and have one ground on a standard LA roller cam.

but I'd probably look at this lobe for intake:
HR277/370

and this for exhaust

HR281/370

ground on a 112LSA, installed at about 106-108, personally
