Are the AMD bumpers of show quality? Or should I buy cores and have them refinished?
Also any recommendations on a good plating and trim recondition shop in the northwest?
Thanks

AMD bumpers are far from show quality, driver quality only. If you want show quality you need to find good original cores and have them plated by a good plater.

I bought new front and rear bumpers for my 69 charger when they first became available from the paddock company.Do not remember who there supplier was.Anyway the front bumper fit real nice and lined up good but the rear i had to do some work to my brackets to get it all lined up straight and even but still the ends do not look right compared to a original. The chrome was ok for a driver or local car shows but i would not put them on a 100 point show car.

I look at the AMDs real close at a Mopar show and decided to go with re-chromed originals. Unfortunately that's the only way to go to get show quality chrome. The AMDs did not have a smooth contour to the base metal on the curves. At least the on the ones I looked at.

The AMD ones are not the greatest finished bumpers for sure.
But when your local area platers tell you it's 750 bucks minimum PER bumper to replate them , then the 700 bucks for a new pair from AMD sure sounds good.
That's what I did, and the AMD's look OK as long as you don't get up too close.
As far as fit, no problems.

I have an AMD rear bumper on my Duster, and it looks great. I have yet to see a better one anywhere.
Years ago I bought a repop rear bumper for the Charger, and it was as wavy as fiberglass.

Although you didn't specify what Body?,....the AMD E bodies were horrible, but have been retooled for the 3rd time....the AMD Charger rear bumper I bought was actually very nice, fit like original, the chrome while not triple plate, was better than factory finish,....came with bumperettes total shipped was $325,...a triple plate of my original was quoted at $900,....it's been on the car for 6 yrs now, no rust, peeling, pits, etc....and the car dose get driven, rain or shine

Waddaya mean, NOT triple plated?
Triple plated is one of those terms tossed about but rarely understood. I havent heard of a chrome process that ISNT triple.
Step one is a copper plate, much like bondo over sheet metal, to fill in any low spots.
Step two is the nickel plate, which gives the bumper its color, like paint.
Step three is the actual chrome plating, which similar to clearcoat.

But it is very common to not bother with the copper stage.. And if your seriously trying to have perfect Chrome it may receive more than one trip to the copper tank... Fact is three or four isn't unheard of but it don't happen for free...

I'm more than familiar with the Chromium process, the AMD bumpers that I received has supplied information that the Chromium process used was just nickel and chromium, basically very much like "production chrome" used "back in the day"....hence no "triple chrome"

Was quoted $275 for rechoming from a company in CA. Triple plated and "cured" on the back. What ever that is.

Now I just have to find a fair price on a used set.
Is $50 fair? Probably less than the shipping.
