My friend is thinking about puting a 1970 TA power steering box and fast ratio pitman arm on his 70 Cuda, but he is wondering what such a unit would cost if he could even find one. He wants an original unit, not a repop.

thanks,
Don

Boxes can be anywhwere from $350-$700
Pitmans from $150-$275

Just tell him to shop around,
And to make sure the box has the
"TA" cast into it.

Im not aware of any fast ratio Trans Am boxes without this cast into it.

And I would say why bother spending big $$ for a T/A box when it doesn't have a faster ratio, it doesn't have modified valving... It only has different internal travel limiting stops... I would use a box modified by Firm Feel with improved valving for more steering effort & better feel.. Then the longer pitman arm and idler arm... Yes if you turn the steering to lock the tire can rub the frame rail but if you have half a brain you quickly figure out how many turns you need to turn a circle & how far you can turn in till the tire touches the frame...

Just put a Fast Ratio pitman and Idler on from www.firmfeel.com to his existing box.

The only thing significantly special about the T/A box is that is has internal stops to prevent some complete idiot from cranking the wheel to full lock, holding it there, and possibly rubbing against the inner frame rail.

People do this all the time and they don't buy the "T/A" stamped box. That's a waste of money for a car that didn't originally come with one.

I think Firm Feel can rebuild you box with the changed internal stops just like the original T/A box if you wish. And you get a good rebuild box, instead of one off some parts car that's been sitting around for 10-15 years plus.

I did this mod to my 1970 dart swinger.

See the pictures in this outer post.

I'd like to get a set of these, but Ive got TTI headers. Any chance running just the longer pitman arm would work?

Yes, you can use a long pitman arm and short idler. Also 2" TTIs will clear the long idler and pitman on an e-body
