After teardown this winter my motor looked really good so I am just going to replace bearings and rings. I bought a honing tool from Harbor freight to hone my cylinders myself. There are no instructions with the tool.
Do use a special honing oil to do this and how do I know how much honing to do? The cylinders also look good so I just want to put a finish on the that will allow the new rings to seat properly.
Thanks Mike

Its kinda tricky to get the correct cross hatch like 30°- 40° or so for proper ring seat.. You have to run the drill at lower speeds and work the hone up and down in the cylinder a decent speed at the same time.

Was the block honed with a torque plate before? If so don't rehone it without the plate and same type and brand head gaskets What type of hone is it, ball or mechanical with long stones? Harbor Frieght tools are not the best when it comes to making good results

First your just deglasing the walls its not a hone
but try for 30* cross.... you will be moving up and
down pretty quick at a fairly low rpm

yes MR P Body I guess I am just deglassing the walls! The cylinders were professionally honed 2 years ago at the maching shop.
How do I get a 30 deg angle???
Thanks Mike

LOL... its a up and down (pretty quick ) with a fairly
slow rpm on the drill... you'll see the marks after
a few strokes and either adjust the stroke speed(your
arm) or the rpm of the drill
