Hey guys,

I need some help. I have a 91 360 motor that im building and its an LA. The timing cover has the stamping and one of the holes for the mechanical fuel pump, but because it was a fuel injected motor its obviously not using a mechanical pump. I wanted to reuse my stock carter mechanical pump and I was wondering what I would have to do to run it besides punshing out the hole for the fuel pump arm, drilling and tapping the other pump hole, and getting a fuel pump eccentric. Do i need a longer cam snout? Will this 91 timing cover (timing marks on driver side) work with standard LA balancers and mechanical fuel pumps?

just want to make sure before i assume anything

thanks!

this is an LA block though. Do I still need the snout? Im getting a new cam made anyways, so can i just have them grind me an LA cam and it fit okay without the need for this special snout?

the 91 may or may not have the long nose cam

you could just swap on an older t-cover to save time and work

if you go aftermarket cam,get a long nose cam and run stock ecentric and mech pump

I orderd up a lunati VooDoo roller for mine and got the long nose for mech FP

the 91 should also have oil thru lifters and hollow PR and still oil thru the block/heads to rockers(mine did)

so its oiling both ways with no problems(stock engine did also)

thats 1/2 way to a magnum head swap(oil thru lifters/hollow PRs) for a pre-mag hybred later on

the timing cover even though from a 91 appears to be the same as the earlier LA engines as well with the pointers on the drive side.

When I order the cam I will order a long snout LA to use with a fuel pump eccentric. Im assuming that If i ever go electric pump i can still use the long snout cam and not have any problems?

thanks for the help guys

why not just get it over and go electric now?

I don't need an electric pump, nor do i have the money for one. When my stock mechanical one becomes insufficient or i plan on shooting some nitrous I will upgrade then. Doing to much to the car this year to spend on extras that arent absolutely nescessary
