I have a few questions about the assembelly of my 318, First off what is better to use assy. grease or oil on the bearings I have heard 2 different stories on this, keep in mind the motor will sit for about 6 months. Second, my harmonic balancer has a stripped hole for the crank pully, would a helicoil mess the balance up? and if I get another balancer do I need an internal balancer or external? oh ya its a 1972.

To start with

Grease, preferably assembly lube or molybdenum disulphide based grease. Use oil on threads to ensure a more accurate torque value, but for bearings oil will not do, especially waiting 6 months. Before you fire it up, preoil the engine.

As for the balancer, helicoil it. If you do go with a new one, all 318's are internally balanced.

Don't worry about it, Ed. You got caught in the middle of something else. Seems someone doesn't understand the difference between a band aid and a cure, but that someone isn't you, or me.

You mean like replace an entire cooling system to find out the problem was the lower radiator hose was collapsing causing the problem. Your comebacks are getting a little better poopercuda having a 2 year old write them for you is definitely working for you. Now that's 2 solutions that solved a problem that I'm sure you won't agree with.

Will you two children take it into PMs and get out of this thread?
