Hey everyone. I don't post here to often but do love my Mopars

I have the opportunity to buy a 1970 Roadrunner and am wondering if anyone can give me some buying tips for the car. The car is a project, original 383 4spd, now 440. Car needs some bodywork and is missing front seats. Bodyman by trade so I'm not too worried about that issue. Is there any parts I need to make sure are with the car? Anything that makes or breaks the deal? Like possibly parts that are very hard or expensive to find? Any trouble spots in the b body cars? I currently also have 67 Dart GT. Thanks!

They are pretty much all the same. They will rust out by the back window and then it gets the lower quaters and around the wheel wells. Just check the floors and all the frame work to make sure it is good and not all rusted out. The front seats are pricey but you can find them and all the other parts are easy to find now since they have came out with all the new parts for them. You can check with BE@A and Dante's on here for all your parts. Good Luck! Ronnie

Take a flashlight, lay down on your back in the trunk and look up under the dutchman panel. The dutchman panel goes from the bottom of the rear glass to the trunk opening.A lot of these cars have been patched from the top and look terrible underneath!

frame rust #1. dash parts and plastic #2----these are hard to find. #3 fender tag and titling issues. make sure body #s match.

Original motor is gone so numbers matching isn't totally important...but make sure the numbers that are there really match and that it's a RR (RM21 or RM23) and not a Satellite. For 1970 radiator support stamped number and trunk lip number match the VIN sequance numbers. Dash, door tag, and title should be complete VIN (RM etc.). Fender tag and build sheet is a bonus but not a deal breaker on a 'common' RR. 1970 RR's have the most sheet metal and other parts available than any other B-body. Sounds like fun!

Thanks for all the info! I was wondering about the VIN locations on the car to make sure everything matched up. I also knew that at some point people may try to badge a Satellite as a RR so that info is good to know. Thanks a ton. Should be fun, I guess the car has a pretty built 440 with a 4spd, along with a V gate shifter... if the deal works out that will be going back to the hurst shifter I should be going to check her out this weekend so pics to follow. Thanks!

P.S. the car is now Plum crazy, needs quarters and floor pans, owner says he has the floor pans. Supposed to be red with a black top. He says he has the "correct" 383 air grabber hood. I am excited to go check this car out

A real air grabber 4-speed in red sounds pretty cool. N96 and D21 on the tag if it exists; these easily offset the missing 383. The hoods also rust on RR's at the hinges and the front and can be difficult to repair. Look for all the small air grabber parts too like switch, vacuum cannister, etc. The fiberglass hood box is also expensive but all this can be found used or repo'd. Air cleaner and carb mounting pan is also unique for air grabbers.

It will have to have the 440 base to the air cleaner because the 383 and 440 used different ones. And you can buy the air grabber hood new now. The radios are a 1 year only but they are easy to find used. The more parts that are with it the better off you will be but it does sound like it would be a nice car fixed up. Check and see if it has a fender tag when you look at it. Good Luck! Ronnie

Here is the car, doesn't have an air grabber... supposedly all parts are present. I am a body man by trade so the body doesn't bother me too much. Needs quarters and probably a lot of other patch work. What do you guys think its worth? Thanks!

You can buy the full new quaters from AMD NOW that go up to the joints on the sail panels. There was a number matching 70 RR here by me in better shape just sold for 4K so I don't know what would be a good price on that one. I wouldn't think I would go over 2k for it, it looks like it has a lot of rust. Good Luck Ronnie in Okla.

Thanks for the info, I guess I forgot to mention the car has a rebuilt 440 in it.. not sure how much that would add to the value, the pictures were taken before the engine was installed.

Had a 70 RR that i bought when i lived in Cleveland in the early 80,s. Besides all the rust spots you showed in your pictures, my car had rust so bad in the trans cross member torsion bar mounts that after driving it for about 4 years it scared me it was so bad i parted the car out. No one made parts for these cars back then, just check yours real good, at least you can buy patch panels or an old removed good piece. I love the look of the 70 RR.

I think around here one like that would sell for 5-6k. Depending on how rusty it is underneath of course.
