The answer lies in what your intended use will be.
Some will say that the vaulted 340 manifolds flow quite well and can be made to work.
Others will say that its headers or nothing...
If you want something slightly better than manifolds, Laysons restorations offers a header that looks more like a tubular manifold.
For full length under chassis headers, TTI is the only vendor that I am aware of. NO fenderwell cutting, but you better hope that Santa left some greenbacks in the stocking. Call for pricing and you will see what I mean.

Dougs Headers make some nice early A-body headers also. Dougs.....not Doug Thorley's.

for under carriage headers.

dougs (smaller tube)
tti (larger tube)
spitfire are the cheapest(if you order make sure it C.O.D)

I took a set of Spitfires off my 66 Dart and put on a set of Dougs. Both are good headers.

I'm currently running Doug's D-450 headers on my 63 Valiant and I'm very happy with them. Back 15 years ago I had 340 cast iron manifolds, then stepped up to Spitfires, and now finally the Doug's as I keep making the car faster.

One word of warning on the TTI's. They require a special starter whereas as the Doug's work with the standard Mopar mini-starter.

Here's the coated ones thru Summit: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/DOU-D450/

Un-coated: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/DOU-D450-R/

Wow, those are $459 more than I paid for the car!

Come on, dude! Who here has EVER said that Mopars were inexpensive? The "buy in" cost of our cars is often the only bargain. I was one of the lucky ones that found a smoking deal. I paid $1700 for a 70 Charger in March 2000. It was a running, driving 318 car with drum brakes and minor rust. Now, $26,000 later, its a pretty decent car.

LOL, My rust free and complete E-body was a $200 buy in cost. Then again I've been playing with mopars for quite a while.

I like the Spitfire headers. Its a shame the maker is criminal. Its also a shame no one else is making a simliar bolt in SpitFire type header at a REASONABLE cost. The original Spitfires were under $200 but one could turn around and sell them for a HUGE profit on Sleaze bay. As much as I admire the TTI's and drool over them I will have to make due with the typical Hedman-Summit-Cyclone cheapies.

Keep old mopars alive.

May I ask why you switched over?

I've got the spit fires on my 66 Dart and am considering taking them off. My exhaust guy can't get the pipe past the torsion bar with enough clearance so they don't rattle. I also have the Schumacher engine movement limiter. Maybe I need a new exhaust guy ?

If I can jump in here, I switched from Spitfires to Dougs for performance gains. The Spitfires were marginally better than the 340 HP manifolds they replaced.

The best that I can say about the Spitfires, at least when I got them back on 2002 was they were cheap. I paid $120 COD delivered to my door. I spent more having them thermal coated than I did the actual headers. The 340 manifolds I was borrowing from a friend would have been $500 or more to replace.

Absolutely! I have the 340 HP's and was wondering if headers would be worth the gain & not sure I want to cut the fenderwells for the Hooker super comps. I remem when Harold started making the spitfires and people were touting his ethics and the headers were very reasonably priced. Surprised to hear that he has (reportedly) taken a wrong turn

^ I saw a big performance gain when switching from the Spitfires to the Doug's. But essentially nothing when switching from the 340 manifolds to the Spitfires. Only reason I went to the Spitfires in the first place was my buddy needed his manifolds back and I couldn't swing the $ for the good headers back in '02.

I saw a big gain ( 13.30 @102 to 12.80@ 106 ) when going form '71 340 manifolds to spitfires on a stock 360

Hey Valiant, You probably don't remember but I was the guy looking at your Dougs and asked you a few questions about them while you were in the staging lanes at the Nationals this year.

I bought 2 sets of Spit Fires from Harold. Told him I couldn't do COD and I would send him the money when the headers showed up, I must have been one of the lucky ones. I sold the other set on ebay and did pretty well......

^ I remember our discussion at the Nats. Good to hear from you. Also glad to hear the extra set of Spitfires paid off as well.

I still have my coated set of Spitfires laying under my work bench. Probably should sell them and make a quick buck, but I'm scared of what might be available in the future. My luck is that I'd need them about a month after I sold them........

Hey guys, pretty dangerous to labal someone a criminal (slander) and not get this thread locked. Not defending Harold but not shipping your headers as promised doesn't make him a criminal, maybe a poor business person. Most people who have done the COD route have received their headers.

A thief is a criminal.
To take payment for a product and then fail to deliver is theft.
Seems pretty simple to me.
I think that the man could have saved alot of grief by being upfront with his customers by telling them that the delivery time could be longer than originally expected.
