elmor OP enthusiast E Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 293 salem, oregon. usa	Bought a 71 383 and it looks to have a weighted harmonic balancer. I know the 400's were externally balanced but didn't think any of the 383's were. Any one know anything about this? I don't want to put this in my truck without a weighted converter if it's supposed to have weights on it.

If it's a 2bbl engine it could have a cast crank , look on the ID pad for the letter E somewhere after the G 383. You could just buy a B+M weighted flexplate then you will not have to worry about convertor selection.
