There was only ONE Bird - talked to Ronny and Herb about that - they just changed eng/trans/hood, etc. depending on what class they were racing that weekend w/ the car. I'd heard that there were two also - so I asked and they both told me the same thing. Hope that helps, Reed in Ne.

Wow, after all these years, that finally got cleared up! Thanks for taking the time to find out Reed!

In the S & M book, in one of the pictures one can see a second wing car to the left of the Superbird being worked on. Was that a customers car? It has keystone classics and a white wing.

That's the pic that bugged me for a long time so I asked Ronnie and Herb about that last year - it was a customer car - NOT a second car.
Herb drove the Bird as a MP car and Liester? drove it as a SS car, I believe(don't have my notes in front of me). Didn't take much to change it back and forth, depending on where/who they had to race.

Actually, the more I look at that picture, it kind of looks more like a Daytona wing than a Bird wing. Better give em a call Reed and see what the deal was and if either of them have any recollection of what it was.

Reed, you must have been posting right when I was! OK, if it was a customer car, that answers THAT question.

Now wait a second here, didn't a guy named Joe Fisher drive the Bird too???

I did ask but both had no answer as to whose car it was - Ronnie said "we worked on a lot of different customer cars" - wished I could tell you more - that's all I got to go on - its what I was told - Reed in Ne.

I'm still here and car hunting. I am looking for a 4 speed Daytona. Doesn't really matter on the color of the vehicle too much, but I really like R4 red, black stripe black interior, or V2 orange black stripe black interior. So that is what i'm looking for. If i find it i find it, if not then i'm not too old ot just wait.
I looked at the Sox and Martin picture very closely. And I think its a superbird wing, and I also noticed SS/A wrote on the passenger window of the car. If its a customers car, that would be cool that they worked on another car that was also used in drag racing then. Just would be nice to find out which other drag wing car they worked on.

On the hunt for my dad's old cars. They include 5 Daytona's, 2 superbirds, and 2 500's. Very interested in finding the Red on Red Daytona, and Q5 Charger 500, and have found both cars.

I dunno, I kinda agree with John. It does look more like a Daytona than a 'Bird wing to me. It doesn't have a lot of rake to it. Look close, the roof is a darker shade than the side of the car. Anyone have pics of a two-tone SS/A Daytona with Keystones? I'd like for us all to find an answer to this riddle.

Could the second car simply be the Jennings drag Superbird? That car has modifications from an unknown source as referenced in the old magazine article from 15 years ago. That one has a VIN. I'd also believe that the Sox Bird car also started as a legit Bird. It's too stock looking to build up from a body in white with full interior, vinyl top and all.

Could be...if it's indeed a Superbird and not a Daytona...

I hadn't thought about it maybe being the jennings car. John do you have a larger version of that picture? one that i could blow up and inspect closer?

I've been avoiding this thread for too long, but I'm curious what I've missed, but just haven't got the time.

Can someone please give a brief recap?

Man, it's covered so much stuff that I don't remember much past the last couple days without going back over it but the last day or so has dealt with a pic of the original Sox & Martin Superbird later in it's life and what became of it. Ya need to catch up on some reading!

Print it off, and put it together as a new magazine, it will be one of the best you have ever read! This has been a great thread.
