im having a problem with the reverse light where it seems that the light on the dash and reverse lights only work when i hit the brakes.i have the correct 2 prong wiring from the trans to the fuse panel and the wire coming out of the harness in the engine bay to the dash light seems to be correct. what im not sure on is how the brake switch ties into the reverse under the dash. any help is very much apprecated.

tried that. no change. i wondered if the under dash harness might have something to do with it.... it a 1970 rallye harness from a automatic car.

First thing I would do is jump the two wires at the tranny, turn on the ignition--light should be on. If it is then the issue is in the switch/tranny, if not its in the wiring circuit.

Let me get this straight- you are using an original auto trans car's harness in your now-manual trans car?

Still sounds like a taillight housing ground issue.
