I'm getting ready to make a/c hoses for my 69 charger with a 472 hemi and a BPE under alternator compressor. Does anyone have pictures of air conditioning hose routing on a big block car with a under alternator compressor?

I don't have pictures, but I just did this on my 71 Challenger. I kept all the hoses routed on the passenger side of the engine bay. I ran the hoses to the condensor through two bulkhead fittings I placed in the front radiator support. I hated to drill holes in the radiator support, but I wanted to kind of stealth the whole system in as much as possible. I ran the hoses to the firewall under the heater hoses. With the compressor under the alternator, you really have to look to see that my car has AC. I really like not having that big compressor sitting up front and on top of the engine.

Good Luck

I used the Bouchillon hidden system too, but I didn't want to drill any aditional holes in the car. I'll take some better pictures today and update this post.

On the hose from the evaporator at the firewall, I used a 45 degree fitting to point the hose slightly downward as it leaves the firewall, routed the hose under the heater hoses and down to a 135 degree fitting with a low side charging port where that hose attaches to the compressor.

On the compressor high-pressure side, another 135 degree fitting with discharge port at the compressor, ran the hose out under the right framerail near the bumper bracket - up and through the lower valance area, across the lower radiator openning, curving up to the top of the condensor which has driver's side outlets.

From the reciever drier (which is attached to the bottom of the condensor with a short hardline) I ran the line out under the driver's side framerail near the bumper mount across the front of the K-member lip, and up under the heater hoses to the firewall attaching with another 45.

The hoses are held in place naturally with only one clamp per hose near the centerline of the car.

While it sounds less than desireable for the hoses to tuck under the framerail, it's hardley noticable where they pass under it and they're well-hidden near the bumper attaching points.

I used the black line A/C line and primed all the components and fittings including the compressor with black self-etching primer and finished them with satin black. The condensor is mounted using the four radiator bolts.

The average person just doesn't see the underhood A/C components or the hoses with the hood wide opened or even closed looking at the front of the car.

Thanks for the tips. jbc426 what did you use to make the hardline? Which type of flare do the hardlines use? I purchased the BPE 6651 with extra length hose and a mastercool hose crimper. Do you guys recommend purchasing any additional fittings/hardline/flaring tools? If anyone else has pictures of how they routed the lines from the condensor, please post pictures.

It's just a simple aluminum line with o-ring fittings. It comes out of the bottom of the condensor and goes up to the reciever drier, which mounts on the side of the condensor...like this link shows. (I used a different size than this though)

Here's another link that shows some of the various lengths and ends on the hardlines.
