I had that happen once and had to send my son from inside the car via the back seat to pull the rod. That's about your only choice is to remove the rear seat and divider and send someone small through..

The rod that fell out is probably a flat piece of metal. If you strapped a straight blade screw driver on the end of a broom stick or something, stick it through there and get the screwdriver blade in the slot where the rod fell out and twist.

Oh boy.... I don't have a picture but I just looked at the situation. Here goes--Straight above the fuel fill tube, behind the sheet metal support for the latch is tang that hangs down. From the back seat you will not be able to SEE the tang. It points staight down in the 6 O'clock position relative the latch. The tank moves to the Driver side of the car to release the latch.
I would think with the right piece of wood dowel you would be able to release.

I think I have a better idea. If you get every ratchet extention you own, and maybe your neighbors, you can simply remove the two 1/2 inch bolts that secure the latch to the trunk. The trunk will then open bringing the latch with it!

I had all these same thoughts until I decided to send my son through... LOL

I guess that is why you'll notice that most cuda owners removed that trunk rod cover.

If you're going to go after the tang route, be advise the tang is about 1.5 inches ABOVE the lower opening of the latch support sheet metal (again, above the fuel fill tube)
