I will be installing fuel injection (megasquirt) on my 440 in the coming weeks. I'll be using it to control timing which will require a non-advance distributor with an VR (stock) pickup. Doesn't necessarily have to be exactly stock, but some sort of pickup for crank timing.

I'm basically looking for a single-pickup lean burn big block distributor. But I'm having no luck finding one. Is there another alternative. Potentially one with higher build quality that won't have worn bushings, crooked shafts, and huge run out?

Is the 440 Source billet distributor what I'm looking for? Is there another option?

Thanks, I really appreciate it. This is one of the last pieces to the puzzle.

I don't see why you can't use a dual pickup lean burn, and they ought'ha be around for the taking

What about a stock dist w non worn bushings (most all I check are OK) and pinning the weights to lock em solid and drilling a vertical hole into the 2 flat plates and locking them solid w a small bolt/nut and use a spacer on the bolt inbetween the 2 plates so the top plate does not tilt when you tighten them.

You might be able to buy a lean burn pickup assembly at a good auto parts store and replace your pickup. Standard Motor Products used to make these. That was easy back when they had catalogs with photos in the back. Everything is computerized today, so you will have to know the specifics of the application, i.e., 1978 Dodge Magnum with 400, etc.

You can probably figure out a way to lock yours down, as others have said.

Or, Rock Auto has a listing on one for 77 NYB 440, has dual pickups and no vacuum advance. Cardone #303866, $50, no core charge. Other years with single pickup are listed as rebuild-return only, but this one is available. I bought 2 a while back just for future EFI use, parts like those ain't gonna be available forever.

If you can find any LeanBurn dizzy, you can play mix-match with your parts. All the pre-TBI, V8, electronic ignition dizzy housings are the same height. The dizzy shafts differ in how far they protrude into the block. Visit the '5.9 EFI a different way' thread, I put a bunch of dizzy info in there. That's for a slightly different purpose, but I think the clues you need are in there near the end of the thread.

I'm guessing you've visited DIYAutotune? they have a tech article on their website that explains exactly how to do the dizzy part of things.
http://www.diyautotune.com/tech_articles/how_to_megasquirt_your_vintage_mopar_engine.htm

And this page has one of the better start-finish lists I've seen. The Megamanual can get overwhelming.
