Did you confirm that it was the original engine from the 73 car and that it had not been rebuilt ? They didn't paint the engines orange after 71 ...

The exception may be 440's in motor homes. A friend recently pulled one out, all original and the engine was turquoise. I snagged these valve covers off the engine cheap. They are turquoise guaranteed, and not blue. In another thread on here titled "Timing a 73 motor home" his pictures indicate his 440 motorhome motor is turquoise as well.
I've viewed this picture, and the one on the other thread, now on several different monitors, All I see is faded, aged, and years of heat treated "Chrysler blue", that's not turquoise. Those valve covers don't look any different than any of the 72' and up old passenger car engine parts I have kicking around the shop.

my personal preference, on a blue car, I'd prefer an orange engine, just so that it stands out and pops at you. blue would make the engine dissapear into the car and you couldn't see it at all.
vice versa on an orange car...I wouldn't want an orange motor in an orange car, and would paint it blue.
my car is a factory 2 tone, white body with painted B5 roof. I think a blue motor would lookgood in that combo. (plus it's a factory 2bbl 383 car, with AC...so the motor ought to be blue anyway)

I repectfully disagree with your statement. My eyes are better than any moniter you have. If you'd like, I'll chip some paint off the engine next time I'm there and mail it to you for you to study in your lab. Its turquoise GUARANTEED
