That seems kind of unfair to me. You're asking a guy to buy extra parts when he is struggling to even get enough to built complete units? And who does damage control to his reputation when "Bob" put's the bearings in backwards and Jamie get's the flack because the transmission ate itself and is junk? It's not like he's buying and modding Tremecs. Never had any issues with Jamie, and I can't remember anyone saying they did. Nobody's perfect, but come on. I'm sure he will stand behind his product and if there is an issue, he will fix it. But why should he pay shipping if you put 200,000 miles on a unit and it needs new sychro's? Don't remember Chrysler doing that, why should Jamie?

Scott, Good question, Let me be clear to everyone. At this time, we do not plan to sell replacement parts. Nor are we authorizing any repairs to be done "at home" I think everyone knows us long enough that we are fair. Especially on our labor rates when you consider the market. We are the only authorized repair facility. I don't see this changing either. Thanks, Jamie
I am also very sorry to hear this

Hey it's their transmission and if they want to monopolize the parts and repair it's their business. But I will bet you if everyone one on the waiting list is made aware of these facts and they should be. The waiting list will get considerably shorter.

Well, Where do I start... I gotta be honest, I was not expecting to receive the firestorm that I did here. I think that you guys might be putting the cart before the horse here. The trans has not even been officially released and already people are freaking out about parts. I am partnered on this project. So rest assured, parts will still be available after Scott Smith has me killed off. There is a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty on the transmission.
This being said, let me present a situation. You buy a nice new Dodge Ram and the trans starts malfunctioning. It is still under warranty, but you are gonna buy the parts from the dealer, pay for them and pull the trans, try to repair it and put the truck back together???? Lets be serious guys!!!! REALLY??? You bet your ass you are gonna call the dealer and get it fixed. and get it fixed NOT ON YOUR NICKEL! I think you see my point here. At least I would hope so.
To be quite honest with you, I have not thought in depth about the sale of parts. I have been a bit preoccupied with getting the product finished. Contrary to what some people may think about us MONOPOLIZING parts / labor, that is the furthest thing from the truth. It is about not having units out there that unskilled people have messed with. I am not cutting on anyone, but the fact of the matter is that some people shouldn't touch stuff they are not experts on. I sure would not try bodywork. I am not a body guy. What I do not want to happen is at the Saturday night cruise, a guy walks up and asks what trans is in the Challenger that someone just bought, and the guy says a Passon A-855, but it shifts like crap. I really doubt he is gonna elaborate that "Bob" took it apart and messed with it. The end result is that that guy goes on a web board and talks about how crappy the Passon 5 speed is. Trust me, it happens. Hopefully, you guys see where I am going with this.
As far as people having to wait for their stuff, this country is ruled by the Wal Mart mentality. I want it yesterday, I don't want to pay anything for it and I want the quality to be outstanding. It doesn't work like that. I assure you that we will make any repairs of the utmost priority in the shop should there need to be any.
Not to mention, I don't want another "edelbrock head copy situation.
In closing, I would like to say that we will definitely sit down and discuss the parts aspect of the project at the earliest possible time. I was not aware that this would be such a sticking point. Probably because I just figure service after the sale to be second nature. I will keep a close watch on how this discussion develops. I will also consider people's feeling in deciding how we are going to handle this. I feel that it is unfortunate that people are so quick to write off a project that quick. Nonetheless, I respect your decision. I do find something odd though. Out of the nearly 200 people on the order list, NO ONE has asked me about parts availability for the unit at the time of order.
This reply is not meant to attack anyone personally. I am certainly open to discussion as I have been through this whole project.

Jamie while in warranty we are talking a whole different ball game. But after the warranty has expired and my transmission needs a tune up I would want to procure the parts from you and not have to ship my transmission and wait for a repair then a return shipment. I think the reason no one has questioned you about parts is that that they are not thinking in the long term and are assuming that parts will be available in a conventional manor. I am not trying to start trouble just giving the opinion of a interested consumer.

Hi Jamie, Actually I didn't expect to see as much backlash myself, nor was I expecting your reply to be what it was. Keep in mind that I am a MAJOR supporter of you and your products, always have been I was only asking because I've been around a long time and I've seen good companies and good people end businesses, die off, etc. (Ask me about Dick Landy sometime) and when investing 4K plus into a complicated piece of custom equipment I would like to know (for sure) that if Passon Performance was no longer around, that I could either already have, or purchase, the parts and pieces to do the repairs, ESPECIALLY after the warranty period is over. OF COURSE my first choice would be to have you guys do any work on it, that absalutely goes without saying. It would be nice to know that I could buy and stock spare gaskets, bearings, and other wear items to just have on the shelf for someday, that's what I do with many other items for my cars. I'd have ZERO desire to tear it open and work on it myself, just thinking ahead. Concerning "word on the street" bad mouthing of a home brewed repair gone wrong, there's not much you can do about that (with any product). Just be sure to write the warranty to reflect what you will or will not allow and the owners will have to make thier own decisions. If someone wants to reverse engineer and copy your transmission it would be as simple as buying a transmission, not selling individual parts isn't going to make it any harder for them, that's what patents are for. Lastly, I understand that you are already having parts sourcing issues which you need to use to build units and that may be a factor slowing the availability of spares, not a big deal, but I'd still like to know that when things catch up you'd have availability, at least for current owners/customers. I'm on your team so please take this as a positive post, that's my intent.

Well, I just got out of the emergency meeting that I called to discuss the parts availability of the project. After careful consideration of the concerns brought before us, We have decided to offer service parts. I will not be releasing a component price list until it is finalized though. So I really can't elaborate on component costs as of yet. So for everyone worried about getting parts after Scott Smith kills me off Don't worry. They will be available. I am open to any further questions or concerns that are brought up. Thanks, Jamie

Jamie, I actually did this with my 2000 Ram 2500 with a Cummins because I knew the dealer wasn't going to fix it right. Not only on the transmission but with parts of the fuel system , I became my own warranty station on those parts on a truck with less than 40k miles with a 100k MAX CARE warranty that I paid extra for ...
But it's good to see that parts will eventually become available .
