I have a 68 factory big block Barracuda. I would like to change to power steering because, well, I'm a wuss. I have heard the big block 68's did not offer PS but it was offered in 69? I am running the original factory exhaust manifolds. Is this worth the trouble? I am unclear on the correct box and pitman arm I should run. I somehow sense this is one of those projects that is going to fight you every step of the way. I am not opposed to using aftermarket stuff, remote reservoir, etc.

You need a power steering gear with the same size sector as your manual gear (I believe you should have small sector, so any power gear for a 68 A-body should work - this has been discussed before and I just can't remember at this point). After you have the gear sorted out you will need a dual crank pulley and the correct pump and brackets. Then add your belt and hoses. You might want the 90 degree pressure side fitting on the gear, but we've got power steering in my son's 67 non-original 383 Barracuda without the fitting (B-body manifolds, though).

My 68 Dart came with power steering. When I switched from power to manual, I used the same pitman arm.

Your block may hit the sector on the rear motor mount boss, it was shaved off for the 69's. Factory used a Federal pump with a 7" pulley and a 90 degree fitting for the hose on the sector. I found one at a hydraulics company that was identical to the original. I have a guy reproducing the hose for me, but he has not come through yet, hopefully soon!

We've put power steering on two home-built 383 A-bodies and have no clearance issue at the mount (74-78 big block mounts on a home-built DC k-kember).

Don't have specifics but PS was added to the 440 Coronet R/T w/ no problem. No factory, but a factory looking setup.
