I'm in the process of building up the Rampage for the Hot Rod Drag Week and am currently working on the chassis and body BUT I'm not real sure which way I want to go with the engine... I'll be running a 408" SB with a 518 trans(OD)... now the question... should I go N/A or go with my 8-71 blower... understand that this will be a street car after the drag week... I will need to figure this out so I can order up my pistons and cam... oh yeah... I'll run my W-5 heads on it What way do you think I should go.... the quickest I will go(ever) with this car is 10.0 and will only run 10.80 during drag week(10.80 is the quickest you can run in Daily Driver Class).... the other factor is this will be pump gas 93 octane.... I keep going back and forth what I want to do... I'm getting dizzy going back and forth.... thanks guys

Something to think about...are you OK with the exposed 8-71, carbs, and the hole in the hood if you have to drive through a heavy rain storm during Dragweek? I don't know how light your Rampage will be, or how hairy the engine will be, but that 10.80 is certainly attainable w/o the blower. If it were me building a car for DW, I'd instead go with a flat or cowl hood, build a mild 408, and add a small 150 shot of nitrous. It would be a more road worthy, reliable, all-weather friendly setup. Of course, if money was no object, I'd go the turbo/EFI route.

I agree with Dave shoot it when you need it.

That was my concern... weather with a blower... but I really think the blower would look cool.... I expect the car to be 2800 with driver.... these are the rules for DD class which is really the only class I can fit in due to my health/license issue(cant go sub 10.0 for NHRA) but 10.80 is the break for DD
* Daily Driver has no limitations on drivetrain or body modifications. Cars quicker than 10.80 are not allowed in Daily Driver, and e.t. slips quicker than 10.80 will not be accepted. * Daily Driver entries are not eligible to win Drag Week(tm) overall. * Throttle stops and bracket-racing electronics of any kind are not allowed. * Daily Driver is based on an Open Comp format. Each car's five-day average e.t. will be used to determine qualifying position on a 32-car ladder for a bracket race on the final day of Drag Week(tm). At tracks with e.t. slips to four decimals, all four will be included; if only three decimals are on the e.t. slip, then the fourth decimal will be zero. The e.t. averages will be taken out as many decimal places as required to determine qualifying. Ties will be broken by average mph. The race on the final day will be a 32-car field on a Sportsman ladder (1 races 17, 2 races 18, and so on) and a 0.500-second full tree. Normal breakout and first-or-worst rules apply. Each car's dial-in for every round (the dial-in cannot be changed between rounds) will be the five-day average minus a tenth, so a weekly average of 12.20 gets a dial-in of 12.10; in the event that a car averages 10.89 or quicker, the dial-in will be 10.80. Any run quicker than 10.80 will be considered a "worst" and will lose the round. The bracket-race winner will be the overall Daily Driver Champ. In the event of a rainout on the last day, the winner will be the quickest car with the best consistency throughout the week. But there are also a lot of other potential prizes for Daily Driver racers, so read on.

Depending on weight, the 408 CID and the W5 heads are plenty to run the 10.80 ET target without the blower. However, if you want the blower just for the novelty on the street and WOW factor, go for it.
Jim the car w/driver should be 2800# or less... thats the problem I'm having... the WOW factor would be real cool... either way I'm sure I can go 10.0 BUT the weather factor with a blower has me a little concerned... the last drag week we went thru the rain storm from hell... we should have pulled over but didnt, we were down to 15 mph on the E-way but so was everyone The other thing with the blower is height... I dont want the hat above the roof so I would need to do some measuring... I'll try to keep the engine low in the chassis but I can only get so low(I'll make a custom oil pan) but I still need to worry about road conditions... decisions... decisions

I agree that 10.80 should be a breeze with that car and your W5 heads and a single carb, no need for any power adders. Another thing about the blower is that they are usually NOT consistant and you mentioned needing to run 10.80 like a bracket car. You can tell by my PM's lately that I'm in the same boat with you on combo decisions, I've had ALOT of very nice trade offers for my Dart lately but I literally can't sleep at night thinking of which way to go. Big block or small block drag car, maybe a street car with no cage, maybe a tube chassis car, stick shift or overdrive auto, power adder or N/A, just go buy new Chally or Mustang, Good luck with your decisions I'm sure you'll pick a great combo.
