What is the weight and length difference between street hemi and 440 LY rods? Will the big end of the hemi rods fit the 440 crank width size? Just some ideas I'm playing with.

RB and HEMI can use the same crank , HEMI crank has an 8 bolt flange and RB is 6 bolt. Just has to be balanced and use the correct flex plate/flywheel. HEMI / RB main bearings are interchangeable . HEMI bearings are fully grooved.

What are the different lengths and weights of these two rods?

Depending on your idea you actually come up with a lighter bobweight than a 440-6.Not much but close to 100 grams.I had to get creative with the pistons and pins but it worked well. The Hemi rods are very heavy and today there are better options.I might add that durability was not a problem at all.I put over 82K on the combo till I sold it.Can we hear a bit about your idea?

Hemi 6.86 / 1.031 pin
LY/six pack-6.76 / 1.094 pin

Hemi rods are considerably heavier than stock 440 LY rods (not sure by how much). They will fit a 440 block/crank but you will need a kings ransom worth of Mallory metal to balance it (mallory metal is not cheap). They are also about .100 longer and will probably need a custom piston.

You can get around the use all or most of Mallory metal if the weight is right and you externally balance it.That is of course if the idea here is similar to what I mentioned.400 balancer and weighted B&M flexplate.

It's been 20 years since I weighed them so #s are approx.
LY rods around 850g
Sixpack about 75-100g more
Hemi is around 1050g
'64 Maxwedge are about the same as Sixpack

You know the pistons pins are a different dimension right?
I've often thought about using Hemi rods with .1 in the hole 440 pistons for a cheap compression fix though. I forget if the Hemi pins are bigger or the 440 pins.

OP here. I have a friend with some hemi rods. As RUNCHARGER said, the thought was to use the hemi rods with the stock 440 piston. I read somewhere that if you remove the bushing from the hemi rod small end, it will take the 1.09" pins just fine. My pistons are presently about .150" in the hole. With the hemi rods they would be .050" in the hole and if I decked the block .030" (it needs decking) and used the shim gasket, it would give me .042" of quench. But I didn't know about balance, hence the question. Sounds like the hemi rods would be too heavy though.

Unless you are decking it for free by dragging the deck surfaces across a big rock in your back yard it would be smarter to just get a piston that gives you what you need .

As a side note - decking the block that much will also affect the fit of the intake, which may require additional machining.
