Hey guys. 1970 340 stock rebuild for a restored Duster. Won't be driven hard too often. I have a set of NOS Mopar connecting rods that I was gonna use. One machinist said now way, go with Scat. Another guy said stock should be fine, maybe with aftermarket bolts. My gut tells me the stock ones should be fine. It's not really a money issue, I just wanna use what'll be sure to work.
My old 340 Dart had stock ones and I never had a problem and I was 20, however the idiot that ruined this car actually did explode 2 of the original 340 rods. Thoughts ? THANKS !

Use the stock rods, there way better than the scats.

for a stock rebuild? No brainer, stock rods all the way. My 340 still has them and it gets run HARD...I've run it up to 6,600 rpm (oops) with heavy TRW pistons, gone thousands of street miles, made hundreds of quarter mile passes. Scat = Chinese. My American made rods are still going strong.

hi, look on the beam of rod. the good rod has 496 as last 3 digits. ARP bolts and resize, will last just fine.

Nothing wrong with stock small block mopar rods, especially in a stock motor. Personnaly though I would run the SCAT because it is so light along with a lightweight piston, makes for a very rev happy motor and they are a ltiile stronger than stock but that is not an issue on a stock motor.

Thanks 4 your time guys. I'm gonna go with the Mopar rods provided they check-out OK. They're not the 496's that "perf" likes (mine are casting #3418645, P/N 2899495) but I think I'll be OK.
I'll have the ARP or whatever bolts installed and it's all gonna be balanced too. Thanks again for your help. http://www.MitchAmatrudo.com/duster.htm
