i know you can reuse one mount and put spacers on the other to make 318 mounts work with a 360, but which side is which? also what size spacers are needed and is there a certain type of metal or finish that i should use?

I used a 7/16" nut. Grind it round and paint semi-gloss black. Ron

FYI He is talking about the steel engine mounting brackets that bolt to the ears of the engine block.it depends on the body your putting the 360 in. and the year, give us specific year, make, model if you want a proper, accurate&specific response.
It's the car in my sig. '71 satellite, now has 318 but getting 360. I'll check autozone, don't know why i didn't before, that's where i normally get my parts. I already priced the schumacher mounts, cost more than i thought.

ok your golden, 71 B-body 318 to 360, can use same mounts you allready got, passenger side bracket IS EXACTLY the same as 360, ok. drivers side 318 bracket is 1/4 inch wider at top than the 360 bracket, bolt the 318 bracket to your 360 block and you will see a small gap between the outer edge of the ear on the block and the inner edge of the 318 steel bracket(where the bolt hole is),use either grade 8 washer stack to fill in empty space,or make a spacer or shim with a hole in it, easy fix, no other mounts are needed to buy unless you want to replace the rubber insluators with new ones...once the bracket has the proper spacer installed you can tighten all the 3 bolts on each side to factory specs.you actually want to snug the two bolts on the drivers side so you have the correct location for alignment of the third bolt where you will make your modification.
