i know you can reuse one mount and put spacers on the other to make 318 mounts work with a 360, but which side is which? also what size spacers are needed and is there a certain type of metal or finish that i should use?

Drivers side is the one. And why not do it right and get the right mount at a JY. They aren't that hard to find.

FYI He is talking about the steel engine mounting brackets that bolt to the ears of the engine block.it depends on the body your putting the 360 in. and the year, give us specific year, make, model if you want a proper, accurate&specific response.

I used a 7/16" nut. Grind it round and paint semi-gloss black.

It's the car in my sig. '71 satellite, now has 318 but getting 360. I'll check autozone, don't know why i didn't before, that's where i normally get my parts. I already priced the schumacher mounts, cost more than i thought.

Parts stores won't have the correct LH bracket for a 360, so you'll either need to source one or add a few shims in the form of washers, etc.

Here is a pic of a drivers side mount shimmed. It's the top bolt to the rear.

I use grade 8 washers so they don't squish.

i used a M10nut as a spacer, workes and dont cost more than alitle time to find one.
if you go to buy the correct mount make sure its realy right some brands lists the same mount, wish will still not be right, also some of them are not made right anyway and will fight you real bad when you try to install the engine,my old stock 318 mounts slip down into the mounts on the K-frame perfect while the crappy indianmade replacement mounts will fight me almost to death.. last time i installed my 340 i ended upp letting of tehsion from the enginelift and then i ended upp standing on the valvecovers to get the SOB of mounts to cooperate

ok your golden, 71 B-body 318 to 360, can use same mounts you allready got, passenger side bracket IS EXACTLY the same as 360, ok. drivers side 318 bracket is 1/4 inch wider at top than the 360 bracket, bolt the 318 bracket to your 360 block and you will see a small gap between the outer edge of the ear on the block and the inner edge of the 318 steel bracket(where the bolt hole is),use either grade 8 washer stack to fill in empty space,or make a spacer or shim with a hole in it, easy fix, no other mounts are needed to buy unless you want to replace the rubber insluators with new ones...once the bracket has the proper spacer installed you can tighten all the 3 bolts on each side to factory specs.you actually want to snug the two bolts on the drivers side so you have the correct location for alignment of the third bolt where you will make your modification.
