Just got a shaft that failed under initial break in from a friend who was throwing it out. One lobe failed. Its a Comp Cam is it worth sending back to be repaired?

YEARS ago it was done quite frequently. Budget racers welded and reground their cams to custom specs, and kept the numbers a secret. Theoretically you can still do this very same thing, but the juice isnt worth the squeeze. A new cam costs about the same. Ever try to repair a cell phone? They're disposable now, just like a toaster, a clock radio, a Prius and a condom. Remember when the high school sex ed teachers used to tell us to clean and REUSE them? Wait... this just got really wierd.

Unless its a billet core, I don't think it can be reground.

Why doesn't he send it back for warranty replacement.

I would assume that Comp Cams would say that the initial start up procedure was your fault so that would void any warranty implied.

I sent them an email to ask but have not received a reply yet.
