I am looking into building a big inch hemi 99 motor without going with a custom billet block.

I have heard and seen people add deck spacers to the blocks and then slipping a longer sleeve in the block.

I would like to get the engine in 600-650ci area.

I calculated to get close to 650ci i would need a 4.750 stroke.

Does anyone know if this stroke will turn in the block with alum rods. I would use the 2.0 honda size rod journals

If it will not turn i will be scrapping the idea very quickly because my budget does not call for a 10,000$ block.

I know this project is probably bigger then i'm thinking but what i have thought will also have to change is.

-Cam (lower lift to let the valve train survive longer) Thinking down to 1 inch lift
-Pushrods length
-Intake.
-Rods
-Crank
- I believe i can use the same pistons if i get the correct length rods

Any more ideas that i have not thought of will help greatly

Thanks

No..well, not a secret as much as an "unknown". I have heard of guys doing what you are talking about but not anyone on this board doing it...yet. I think a couple guys have looked into doing it so maybe they will chime in with more info than I'm able to give you. Good luck!

Todd Grose is in the process of doing this for a pulling truck, last I talked to him was in later part of last march. He was waiting on parts to start the process and until he built and tested the combo's he wasn't going to start doing them for others. I'haven't talked to him lately to see where he has gotten with all this.If you want cubic inches with this engine ,by the time you spend all the money to do it this way ,you might as well go with the billet block ,sorry ,but thats about it takes to go big with the 99.

Spoke with Todd Gross when he was selling his TS engine. I think he fell behind schedule due to waiting for parts.

Might be a big job putting sleeves into a steel block.

If i'm right the 99 blocks are steel..... I don't think they would have sleeves in them. Would be a lot of work to sleeve them with a deck spacer. Although.... Not impossible

I have a set of the revised hemi 06 heads and would love to build an engine with them. I must say they are some very nice castings. My idea on this is to use a cast iron Dart BBC race series block. It can be had in 4.900 bore spacing and also with out head bolt holes and lifter bores and different deck heights. I brought this up once before on here awhile back and never got any feedback on it.

Dart Race Series Block

My Mopars: 1970 Plymouth Barracuda 318, auto on the column: soon to be a hemi with a 4 speed. 1960's or 70's Massey Ferguson 300 combine with a slant six. (a future big block swap?) Big red would then be a lean mean corn picking machine.
