Does anyone know if the tumblers used to clean up hardware will leave black phosphate intact or will it remove that finish?

TIA!

I think it does remove eveything.
I also remember a guy that does it all for you. Can't remember who but maybe someone else will chime in. Send him a bag full and get it back like new.

The tumbler will remove the plating. I tumbled all my stuff in Eastwood's mid sized tumbler then took it all to a local plating shop that does black phosphate.

Depends on what media you use.Go to a gun shop and get what they have to tumble brass. It won't take the phosphate off, just brightens it a little.Have been doing it for years.

Earl,my tumbler is a drum type, about 2 cu ft.A vibratory would probably work just as well, could possibly take a little longer but should do the job.

Also, mailed a box today that has been laying around for about a year.

I've got the cheap Harbor Freight tumbler. Its been working great. Put a little EvapoRust or degreaser in with the green pyramids and everything comes out looking great. If you bead blast some fasteners, you can put them in the tumbler afterwards and it will take away the blasted finish.
