I am thinking of building a 65 belvedere drag car but dont want to spend a ton on the motor for now. So the car need to be as light as i can get it. The problem is i dont want to start cutting up the car if it will never actually be that light. So i was wondering if anyone could give me a close estimate of the weight of the finished product.

Its gonna have a mild 440 (very mild), Dana 60, and all the weight shed that we can. It will be strictly a drag car.

I am eventually gonna put a nasty motor in but i honestly need seat time.

Any opinions would be appreciated!!

My 63 Polara H/T weighed about 3200 w/o driver. Mega block, crossram, dana, mild 12pt cage,Will wood brakes, light seats, gutted doors, lexan 3/16 rear and side windows, glass hood and front bumper. The cage was heavy as it was originally bolted on 6x6 plates top and bottom. The seat brackets were also heavy. My new car is a 64 Belvedere post. Moly cage, seats w/ brackets are 19 lbs. Chrome moly steering column (looks stock),moly strut rods, cut down K-Frame,aluminum 5 gal cell, steel bumpers w/aluminum brackets, windshield will be lexan as well. I have removed all unused brackets and mounts. All else should be the same. Hopeing for 3000-3050 w/o driver. The vent assy's weigh 13lbs apiece if you want to run fixed windows, I like mine to go up & down. I'm trying to be as light as possible (with-in cost) while looking stock. For what its worth my buddys 65 H/T w/no cage, all steel, full interior, headers only exh, 2x4 intake weighs about 3500

Well I bought and built one on the premis that they were fairly light cars. It was a street/strip car with a pump gas 451 with Indy heads. We did nothing to lighten the car, except the backseat was gone and it did have an 8 point rollbar. The body was 100% stock and all steel. I even left all of the undercoating on the car, and there was a lot. It had a 727 and a Dana and weighed 3770 with me in it. I weigh 250. So at 3520 I am not gonna say it was light at all but I sure wish I still had it. Oh yeah went 10.50's like that.

What about the trunk floor and floor pans? I am planning on cutting it all out and maybe doing aluminum.

with enough fiberglass, lexan and aluminum and cutting not a problem.
not that you would go full chassis but there's one in race cars for sale forum in October listing weighs 2250 with tube frame.

In Nov sale there's A/FX weighs 2700 with full frame that is not very light race weight chassis itself

My '62 B body Savoy was about as light as I have seen....3307# with driver @ 200#. It was "GUTTED"! Lexan windows, fiberglass hood, trunk, bumpers, all aluminum interior, etc. It had a 2X3 box frame from trans cross member back. Stock front end, 440, 727, 8-3/4, ladder bars and coil overs. Full 12 pt. cage with shocks mounted to front strut bars off cage(no inner fenders). Light weight wheels, smallest drumms on brakes, etc. I can't think of much else to have taken out of it. Was not steet legal. NO wiring, lights, park brake, NOTHING that wasn't neccessary. Still was heavier than I had expected.

Sorry,,,I meant 3077# w/driver!!

This 64 weighs 1900lbs less engine trans and some other odds and ends. Has glass bumpers, fenders, hood, decklid. All the doors gutted and interior and aluminum dash. Full lexan windows. 12 point cage 2x3 sub connectors and a dana 60 with ladder bars. Guessing it should weigh about 2800 to 3000 when done.

My 65 Belvedere I in full street trim with me in it was 3625 lbs. Big block stick car. Hardtop may be more. With what it sounds like you should be able to loose 600 + lbs.My 63 Fury gutted with a big block auto fiberglass front fenders and me was 3195 lbs. 67 Dart sedan full trim was ruffly 3400 lbs and I got that one down to 2825 lbs with me in it and no fiberglass parts. Just a few numbers for comparison.

We can turn that 65 into a 64 real quick just like we did for Randy Farmer . We make the pin on hood and trunk, both bumpers, doors, fenders, dash board, 3 different heigths of Max Wedge scoops, 2 different heigths of Hemi scoops, and if you want to go altered wheelbase 65 style, we can do that too. We are Sled City Fiberglass , and don't you forget it.
