I can’t say that much about a 65 but my 64 Dodge Polara 500 hardtop streetcar weighs 3899lbs with out me. The car was scaled with 5 gallons of gas, 8 point, dana, cross ram, aluminum wheels, radio, heater, wipers, bucket seats, center consule, undercoating, and dynamat on the floors. It’s all steel and stock except the fiberglass hood. My race weight is light 4144lbs and I run 10.90@123mph. I'm thinking of joining weight watchers after the holidays . 40-50 for me and a lot of on the car

My 63 Sport Fury is all stock body and chassis wise. Just SS springs with no tubbing and all steel other then the glass hood. I added a 6 point rollbar and frame connectors. With my 180 in the car it is right at 3700 lbs. Ron

Anyway the plans are to take out all the floor boards, trunk, glass and pretty much all unnecessary stuff out of the car. It will have a cage. I really think it can get down to 3000k. (I hope)

Another question is how much weight can you get rid of using a rack and pinion instead of stock steering?

You will well achieve the magic number of the high 20's in weight, but you will have to get scientific with all the reduction. I have a list some where that will give you an idea of where the numbers will land once you go on that diet. If i find it, I'll post it up.

Just another one for reference since it is a '64, but our Savoy weighs 3575lbs without driver.

All steel, all factory undercoating, 6pt moly bar in full factory interior, Dana 60, all iron big block, etc...

Here's a rough break down on what weighs from the factory and what can be done about it while keeping the car all steel and streetable.
It is not for the small stuff, but for the usual large stuff that effects total weight. The smaller stuff takes tinkering and mad scientist antics. Don't try this at home while you're married. LOL.
You make the decision and the math.
Remember that if this is to be a leaf sprung car and not a chassis car, you should focus all your reduction on the doors all the way to the front of the car.

*My steel hood with scoop is 79 lbs
*Modified steel with scoop ended at 33 lbs.

*Hood hinges and lock latch mechanism is 13 lbs total.
*4 Hood snap pins are 4 lbs total.

*Front steel wheels are 40 lbs each.
*Aluminum wheels will be 18-24 lbs each.

*Front fenders are any where from 50-59 lbs for a pair.
Mine are still steel but cleaned of all undercoating, badges and trim. Never weighed them though. should be about 10 lbs lighter since under coating is heavy.

*Undercoating can take off an estimated 50-75 lbs alone.
*Painting the underside will add 4-7 lbs for the primer and paint.

*Front windshield is 30 lbs.
*Lexan windshield is 11 lbs.

*All side windows on a Sedan are 33 lbs total.
*Lexan side windows are 8 lbs total.

*Front bumper is 27-35 lbs depending on model and year.
*modified plastic bumper is 7 lbs. Mine is modified steel and 20 lbs.

*Front bumper brackets are 11 lbs total.
*Modified alloy brackets are 4 lbs total.

This is what I can provide at the moment because I'm busy at work, but if y'all need more I'll fill you in on the other areas.

My Dad's all stock 426 street wedge 4 spd weighs 3450 with a 1/2 tank of gas, nothing has been removed from the car and it had steel wheels on it when I weighed it at a certified scale

I am beginning to wonder how rusty some of these cars were before they were built. Possibly spent a little too much time in the dip tank.

The side window are not a lot of real estate. Its the small vent glass, main door glass, and then the quarter glass. This is with out the window crank mechanisms etc. Just plain bare glass.

The doors can be gutted to a certain point with out messing up the strength of the interior metal that holds the cranking system in place. That with the sound deadner removed and those doors start to become fairly light.

The comment was not pointed in anyone's direction. But the weights are all over the place. You have race cars with fiberglass pieces and light weight wheels that weigh 3800 lbs and stockers with steel wheels that weigh 3450. I know some of the weights are with drivers but there seems to be some that are just lighter than others. Hope my Savoy is one of the light ones.

I cant really understand why you have some of the true race cars that weigh so much. In my opinion any weight you take off is just as or more so important than horsepower!! I have seen something somewhere that said for every 100# lost is a 10th second gained. Plus it is easier on parts and is usually pretty easy and cheap up to a certain point. I can tell ya when i build my car if its not neccesary it is going bye bye
