Hi all

Ok i give ,,,

Here what i got going on...

Dont know if its the box or the pump..pump i think

I had a leak where the valve mounts to the top of the steering box ..

i pulled it apart and the seals where bad .. so i put in new seals

now when i turn the steering side to side i feel a strong pulsing on the wheel and the front tires jurk a bit back and forth ...

feels like there no pressure and then a pulse of normal pressure...

HELP!!!!!

Thanks
David

did you get any dirt in that valve when you pulled it off?

I've read about this but never had any first hand experience. I think you need to jack up the front of the car and let the wheels hang. Barely loosen the bolts holding the valve to the steering box and tap the valve a little forward or backward (whichever way it will move.) Retighten bolts and start the car. If the wheels jerk when it starts repeat the procedure until they don't. I read this either here or on the 62-65 site. Like I said, I've never done it myself but I hope it works for you. Good luck!

I've done it , but never jacked up the wheels and let them hang. The valve needs to be centered, I've done it with the engine running , loosen the bolts a little and tap the valve in either direction. I'm sure there is something in the factory service manual about how to do it.

Yep, that's what the factory manual says to do. It can be done with the wheels on the ground, but works better if they are off the ground.

That's a funny place to park, was your car thirsty?

I'm assuming you've bled the system, right?

With the front end off the ground, go lock to lock several times and see if the pulsing is still there before you do the adjustment.

If you ever find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

yes i have the same page in my bible to ...tryed it and made a big mess... but i will try again...

Thanks guys ////

ok had time today to work on the car so i started it and let it run for a bit ...

so i think smoke coming out of the power steering pump may be something ...

it was so hot the fluid was boiling in the rez..

So new pump in this week and we see what happens

Ok got the new pump in today and nothing ... Before that i smacked the valve around...

So off to get the box rebuilt ....

in better news .. it seems the long dead oil gauge
sprang to life along with some on the dash lights..
