Assembling my stock rebuild 360. buttoned up the bottom end, cam is in place, put the heads on, have the timing cover and water pump in place.

Decided to add oil and prime the oil pump. here is the problem: oil pump primed up nice and everything is oiling except no oil is getting to rocker shaft on the passenger side. Tons of oil flowing on the drivers side to the rockers. removed the rocker shaft and rockers on the passenger side.

It appears there is a single oil passage on the rocker shaft boss nearest the back of the block (second hold down screw) and even with the rocker shaft off....there is no oil coming up through that passage....any thoughts? Do i need to pull that head?

You have to rotate the crank slowly while priming so that the oil gets to both heads. The heads get oil at different times in the rotation.

I had the same brain fart once, then remembered to turn the engine over. My friend was still running the drill as I turned it over by hand. We had the rocker shaft off at the time. As luck would have it he happened to be looking down the oil feed hole and got a face full of oil. Ceiling is marked for life after that one. It happens to the best of us. LOL
