actually the stock eddy springs are good to .580 lift and are suppose to be about 120 lbs on the seat...

fact i am using a 230/237 hydraulic cam with .515/535 cam with stock eddy heads and springs..

I have about 15,000 hard miles on mine and I think they are getting weak. The car noses over at 5000 rpm and have pretty much eliminated fuel supply and ignition as the reason. Just looking for a very durable replacement spring.

Don't think that you have a spring problem.
Did you degree the cam??? Not really that much of a cam.

My thoughts too. Might take em off w an on eng VS compressor & have check the psi's to see if that's the prob. I'd make sure you have several psi fuel pressure measured AT THE CARB when it occurs & sub in another ECU to elim/confirm that & you're sure the plugs/wires are up to snuff?. EDIT I would do a compression/leakdown (basics) & is rotor phasing OK

I run the comp 901-16 with my lunati roller cam

single with damper and drop on with stocl seals

been 6200 with no valve float

need to match specs of the suggested spring for the cam when swaping springs around

the comp springs were within 10# of the lunati doubles with damper and needed pc/seals and machine work to fit

choose wizly so you dont have a set for a door stop..DAMHIK

239 intake duration at .050 should pull hard to 6000 rpm.

Higher than necessary valvespring tension costs HP.

With .484 lift there's quite a few economical choices for valvesprings out there. I'd go with something equivalent, but cheaper, to the old MP "249" spring for lift up to .510".

The key is to not just set them up to their "install height" but to have the right "closed" and "open" pressures as mentioned above.

Have you checked the top bushing of the distributor for any freeplay?

Got a fuel pressure gauge reading at WOT?

IIRC eddy heads have ~1.8" IH...if so, comp 911 springs might work well...

All started when trans govenor changed so it shifts at 5800 instead of 4800.

fuel system has been changed to the following in an attempt to fix the issue,
holley blue pump with 3/8" sending unit,3/8" vent tube. 3/8" fuel line, to a mighty demon 825 mechanical sec. with .130 needle an seats, jet extension on the rear. I have 9lbs at idle and at full throttle never goes below 6lbs, gauge NOT liquid filled and right before the carb. The pump flows 3/4 of a gallon in 30 seconds at 9lbs of pressure right before the carb. I would be happier with a gallon in 30 seconds, but I don't want to buy a different pump if it's not the issue. I have about .02 of a volt drop from battery to pump. Jets stock are 76p/84s and have a a/f meter that shows lean over 5000 rpm, I have incrementally adjusted the jets to 92p,98s. This carb is supposed to flow like 900cfm. So it might be big, Installed eddy 800 AVS thunder series, tuned it fat, tuned it lean still noses over,
Ignition is MSD ready to run distributor with FBO 10 deg bushing initial 25 total 35, new cap rotor wires, Has msd 6al box,but I disconnected it and no change,
I can't understand how I could have a fuel volume issue with 6lbs of pressure and only the .130 needles/seats as the only restriction. I moved the reg. right before the carb to see if the fuel was aerated, no change. Could be the coil, but it's an msd blaster II and not that old, When it noses over in second right after the shift it comes back clean and puls hard to it hits 5000 rpm. Doesn't pop,or make any noise just pulls lazy.

Rotor phasing,It is an MSD "ready to run" dist. not sure if the aftermarket dists had tendancy to have issue with rotor phasing.

that is a REAL puzzler. do you have a stock dist of any kind that you could sub in for 1 day even tho the curve'd be way less than ideal? I'm trying to get a handle if it's fuel or ign & from the descrip it sounds fuel though an intermittent miss can be hard to detect (at high rpm) & sounds like you have a more than adequate fuel (supply) system. Vac adv on the MSD dist? (affects the phasing) EDIT are you checking the fuel psi at the offending rpm & past the filter right at the inlet? Mechanical pump also or just electric?

MSD distributor has vacuum advance capability but it is locked out.

Fuel pressure measured right before the split to each float bowl, video taped the gauge during full throttle run. dropped to 6lbs was the lowest starting at 9lbs.

It was a holley mechanical, but change to the Holley blue electric. I didn't want to run the mechanical with the electric. I have a friend that the mechical pump diaphram ruptured and the electric filled the oil with fuel. He spun a bearing.

I focused on fuel because if it was ignition it would load up with fuel and come back real raggity. This comes back clean and fast. Also pulled the msd chip to see if it was hitting the rev limit earlier. Still no change.

Twice it seemed to react to hot laping the car. Looking back over the summers time slips it did better the two times I hot lapped the car.

Been thinkin & thinkin & nothin is hittin me. We gotta start somewhere & I still think I'd sub in a dist. W your high initial a regular dist would have the slots give too much total set at that initial so I'd power time it to 35 give it a shot. We gotta start somewhere & k.i.s.s. getting the ign out of the way might be a good start. & I'd actually put the mech pump back in for (1) run (w the elec). We gotta elim either fuel or ign & go from there.

This is in your Stroker right?

I wonder if the cam is too small for the added cubes. I know my Crane 302-2 hyd is out of steam before 6K in my SB stroker.

Tom how you been?

Yep,its the same 408 with a new trans which included a new govenor and now you got me thinking about the cam just running out of ooph. I never thought it would want to shift lower than 5800, but here's the a scan of the dyno sheet. It definity flattens out about 5200,

Just a thought, I know mine doesn't go any faster if I shift higher than 5500. Sounds like its time for a cam upgrade to me....

BTW doing good! Not looking forward to winter here.LOL

Hope all is well with You and Your Dad!
