I've heard repeatedly that I can not run the high presure power steering pump that came with the 5.7, because it will blow the seals on my original steering gear box. [1] Can the original pump be detuned to produce less presure. If so how, or who will do it, and at what cost, and what will it do if anything, to the life expectency of the pump? If it can not be detuned. [2] The Chevy pump that every one sais to use. What application pump do you use, and what bracketry do you use with it, or do you have to fabricate it, and what ps hoses are available for the change over.

That "too much pressure" line is all BS. I know that is what the Backlane Rod catalog says but it actually was too low at 950 psi. I had more success using the original ps pump that came with the 6.1 hemi (same for the 5.7). Don't worry about the pressure it'll be fine. Don't believe me, call bouchillon performance.

Thanks, glad to hear that. The presure difference is not that much, so if my old box can't handle it, a new firm feel should. I would realy rather upgrade my box, then down grade my pump anyway. I'll definately give that a try first then. thanks.

Anytime. I ran a firm feel stage 2 and it works great! I set my caster to a positive 4.5 degrees caster and the feel is awesome!
Rack & pinions were designed to run the higher psi so you won't have issues either.

I agree. I have the 5.7 with the power steering pump that it came with installed in my 69 rr vert and do not have any blown seal or steering issues.
