Old combo
MP 360 short block, main studs and ARP rod bolts, stock rods and crank, hyperexplosive pistons 12.7:1, .020 over.
W5 small chamber (47cc) heads, ARP head studs, 2.02/1.60 peak intake flow 306 at .650
Solid flat tappet .650/.650 net left at 277/283 at .050 w/1.6 rockers.
M1 tunnel ram two BG 750 TR carbs.
2" header, 29" long, 4" collector 18" long.

New combo
.030 over 360 block, tall filled, main studs and Hughes girdle, K1 4" stroke crank, standard pin, Eagle H beam rods and Wiseco pistons, 12.3:1
Same heads but going to 2.08 intake and more port work. My head porter says at least 325 and more like 330 at .700.
Solid roller with .700/.695 net lift with 278/284 at .050.
Same induction and exhaust set up.

Car remains unchanged, 2x3 strut front end and 4 link rear, 4.86 8.75 with a low gear 904 and 4200 8" T/A converter. Currently runs as posted in my sig. Remember though the current engine is 10 years old and hasn't been freshened, it smokes a little so I know it's tired. I twist it to 7200.

Sounds like a great build. Should be looking at 9's with no problem.

Thanks, I'm hoping to at least run solid 9.70's.

Why you got to make fun of those hyper pistons that served you so well and way beyond there recomended uses?

The only thing I would say concerns me about your new combo is the stock block, in my experiance they like to split right up the mains around 550-600hp and you are gonna make quite a bit more than that. If you are useing an aftermarket block then it should be an awesome combo

Yeah those Speed Pro's have been good and I cut the crap out of them to get valve clearance too.

I'm a bit worried about the stock block myself that's the reason for the tall fill and the girdle. The R3 just wasn't in my budget. If I can run this block for a few years I'll save for an R3 for when I freshen it.

i think the block will be fine.
I had a motor like that and only thing was the capwalk.
Should make about 650-670 hp.
Witch in 2600lbs should be a mid 9

The block issue will depend on sonic #s, reciprocating weight, and quality of machine work, I think you will be @ the extreme upper end of the limits

Possibly, I don't beat on my stuff too hard so we'll see what happens.

I'm pushing 700+ from my SB but agree it cant possibly last longterm.

It will run a lot better than that. My old combo( 4 inch, w5 heads) had a point more compression, but a little smaller cam, and 750 more pounds race weight and went 9.80's on leafs.( 2600 vs 3350)

I would expect 9.40's once its tuned up, if not better, especially if you have good race headers not TTI'S like i ran.
Edit, you have a 904, the car could easily go in the 20's.

If the convertor flash is 4200, its a good 1000 rpm to low for that combo. That will need adjusted absolutely positively. Should be 5300-5500ish, if i read your post correctly.

Lookin sweet

If the combo turns out to be dead on, and to me it appears it is, you might be shocked how quick the car is. At 2600 pounds, if i had swapped out my old 727 for a 904 i think i COULD have been capable of running 9 Oh's to teens at your weight, Based on the 904 and 750 pounds less weight..... so you might be in for a real nice surprise
Look real forward to hearing your results.

Thanks, we built the headers using the Heddman adapter plates so they are round tubes and since it's a chassis car they don't bend a lot.

Yeah I know it could use more stall, that will be the next item for an upgrade.
