Is it a bad idea to blend unleaded pump gas with higher octane LEADED race gas ?

as in Bp 91 mixed with sunoco 110

No big deal. It's a linear mixture.
1 gal of the 91 plus 1 gallon of the 110 nets 2 gallons of 100.5
2 gal 91 plus 1 gal 110 = 3 gal of 97.33, etc.

did it for years when I had 12.2 with iron heads
40% 110 60% 94 = 100.4 on the street I would use 94 and turn the total back to 33 and no ping at 38 it pinged fairly good.

Aluminum heads and 11.7 to one and straight 94 nice for a poor retired guy!!!

Been doing it for a few years now and usually just mix 50/50 cos it`s easier that way. I`ve heard C-12 doesn`t mix well w/pump but never tried it myself. I like trick 110 leaded and they even recommend mixing and have a chart to help out.

I've regularly mixed C-12 and 94 Chevron unleaded at a 50/50 mix......never noticed any problems.
Couldn't hear mine ping anyways...mufflers on or mufflers off .....so I just leave the timing at 35* and keep an eye on the plugs.

Thanks for that Very helpful info there.
So my 50/50 mix I've been doing for my 408 with Ultra 94 & C12 gives me 101 octane.
Still not sure how much i should be running with 11.9 comp. & aluminum heads. It's been good so far and plugs always look clean.

dont you think that those 90s is what got you to open your wallet? or have you figured out something else that caused you to torch the head?

Its hard to say Ray .

i must have been on the edge with 34 total and 93 walmart gas. , yet i had big jets in it , 96 . Now knowing i am around 12.5:1 .
but that was mostly ran in the Brutal heat / high humidity.

was it the comp + gas ? was it just the gasket? Going to 90 jets and great air?
the head bolts were tight as F.
and i see Edelbrock NOW uses a Eddy labeled package that is a FELPRO 8519 .
Why did they change? gasket issues?

I dont have the answer ray -- i DO have it loaded with 110 gas now

IMO, theres no doubt that detonation had a key role in kicking out the gasket, once you dropped the jet size in great air.

On the Edelbrock gasket question! Theres a big thread about that in the Archives.

People would spend Extra money to get Edelbrock HD 12.5 + gaskets. They used to be different ,but were replaced with the Felpro 8519pt gaskets, because of availability problems.

Witch you can get for $20 bucs less if you just ask for the FelPro 8519pt gaskets,

What gaskets are you using on this rebuild? If its the 8519pt, I wouldnt be to concerned. mike
