Been contemplating upgrading the headlights on my roadrunner with relays and H1/H4 European conversion lamps.

Did this conversion on my 69 Charger using Hella Vision Plus lamps. I was really pleased with the performance.

Those Hella lamps are expensive though. I came across these on Ebay for a fraction of the price:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_rdc=1&item=230132376992

The too good to be true price, and the lack of engraving on the lenses indicating any certification makes me nervous though.

Anyone have any experience with these?

Spend the money and buy the Hella E-codes, or if you have to pass an inspection, the Vision Plus headlamps. It's money very well spent.

I have them in one of my cars. No issues or problems. We don't have inspections around here.

A few guys sell them at the swap meet all the time. I bought one out there 10 years ago.

My concerns are in regards to quality and performance. Inspections are not a concern. I want a good E-code light pattern.

I use to work in automotive lighting, for a subsidiary of Hella. Left a long time ago, and no longer have any friends that work there. Can't get the good pricing anymore.

These Autopals are a fraction of the price.

Steer clear, they are POS! The 1st set the guy sent me were broken, the 2nd set would not fit without major grinding.

Do yourself a favor and get something better.

You can get a complete set of Hella 7" round E-code lamps from www.rallylights.com for about $125.00, which is a huge value in terms of increased lighting performance.

I guess I'm a bit surprized that you are not only familiar with the Hella conversion lamps but that you are still considering buying some cheap knock-offs that you should already know aren't going to hold up, nor perform as well as the Hellas.

Buy Hella, fella.

I've got quads, and a complete set is expensive... even at relative bargain prices. Best price I've found is here:

I'm not going to buy a set of cheap knock offs if they aren't going to hold up or don't perform. I think I spelled out my concerns pretty well. That's why I'm soliciting feedback.

Based on cnxt's experience, I will probably go a different route.

I had Hellas for the low beams on my Diplomat, didn't need them for the high beams, I used some seriously wicked lamps (not legal on a car) for the highs.

Anyway, spring for the Hellas, they are worth it, imo.

They say there is always the exception that proves the rule.
Don't be the exception.

I looked at the link you posted, exact same seller I bought from.

Can't stress enough how bad quality these are!

They are cheap, but still not worth the trouble!

Okay, we've established the AutoPal lamps are junk.

I'm still looking for a cost effective alternative to the Hellas.

I've come across some NeoLite E-code conversion units. These too are manufactured in India, but I've read in a few other places that the quality respectable..

http://www.neolitezkw.com/cat_universal_lamps1.html?submenuheader=1

They are also available with curved lenses, while the Hellas are flat.

I just bought a set of H1 Hellas off eBay. The particular units I got turned out to be factory rejects, so I'm still in the market.

I don't see any prices on that link & I'd want to know if the fog light section was on a separate bulb but that 721A lamp on page 3 would look cool in my 67 mgb.

This is the only source I've found so far, and it appears the H1 high beams are on back order.

Just got word from Classic Garage that H1 high beams will probably be out of stock until summer.

The search continues...
